Is RARS still going on??

by Jay Lope » Fri, 05 Apr 1996 04:00:00

I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to RARS or how I
can get in touch with the people involved with it?

thanks,
-Jay

BTW for those of you who don't know what the hell I'm talking
about.  RARS was a programming competition to create "drivers"
that "learned" to drive these cars on different tracks. The
drivers could learn by using neural networks or genetic
algorithms or anything else you could come up with.

RARS is still going on. There are race events every other Sunday,
alternating between "Stock" cars and "Unlimiteds". There are also a number
of web sites for RARS, a good starting point is Safai Ma's page at:

     http://www.io.org/~tfma/rars/

There's also a mailing list that is pretty active. You can subscribe by
sending email to:

with the message:

     subscribe rars-l

Finally, you can access the source files, rules and other RARS related
material at:

     ftp.ijs.com/pub/rars

We are getting ready to start working on RARS-2. One of the planned
features is a way for non-programmers to compete in the Stock car
competitions. If you have any interest, feel free to join the discussion on
the mailing list.
