N2 hiccup?

by gi.. » Tue, 12 Aug 1997 04:00:00

I am having a problem with N2 and wondered if anyone else seen this and
if so what the fix might be. The sim runs perfect in DOS but if launched
in WIN95 it develops a "hiccup" in the video...that is to say the every
4 seconds or so the video freezes for just a fraction of a second. I
couldn't call it choppy or anything like that as if it was a problem
with speed or resources. Also although I realize this doesn't apply to
the group but other games such as Quake, Duke 3D and Redneck Rampage
seem to run just fine out of WIN95 so the problem seems to be isolated
the N2 running in WIN95. You really have to look close to see it but
still is quite a problem when running close to something or somebody or
trying to run consistent laps. As I said before the game is flawless in
DOS mode.

I am running an AMD K6-200 on an IWILL P55TV MB with 80 megs of EDO. The
video card is an STB Lightspeed 128 and the soundcard is a SoundBlaster
32PNP. I am sure the problem is not related to the chip or motherboard
as it acted the same with a SuperMicro P5STE and Intel 166. Also have a
Rightious 3DFX but of course it isn't used with N2. I will probably have
to wait till H*** freezes over and then wait on the ice for a 3DFX
version of N2. Oh well the thing is great with the games it does
support.

Also I have ran both the patches from Sierra so I assume the the game is
current as far as bug fixes. Any ideas anyone??? If so please feel free
to email me or post to the group....THANKS in advance!!!

Do you have any of the Windows networking turned on? If so, turn off
DHCP and WINS resolution. That's probably the problem.

N2 hiccup?

I had the same problem and had thought it was a lack of RAM; I had only
16.  I upgraded to 32 MB and still had the same problem.  I then thought
that maybe I was having some problem with the mouse driver (logitech
driver from original Win95 disk) and I downloaded a updated driver from
Logitech's website and now it works great.  If you're OK on RAM, try a new
mouse driver.
