Fluctuating Pings & N4

by Race15 » Wed, 28 Feb 2001 10:10:39

Went online to race and entered a watkins glen five-lap showdown.  My ping
entering was 194.  After qualifying the server had a 5:00 warm-up.  While I sat
in the chat area with the entries option open, I noticed my pins fluctuating
between a low of 83 all the way up to 659, over and over again.  Each move from
top to bottom took all of 15 seconds.  My quality fluctuated from 98 to 102.
When the race started I warped and lost the pace car, so I just backed out.
There were only four cars in the race.  I never have seen such movement on
pings.  Anyone have any Idea?

Sounds like you may be having problems with your cable modem similar to I
was. I had the old Motorola modem and was getting pretty bad connects. My
pings to my gateway were very erratic, anywhere from 60 ms - 300ms, with

suggested I check and see if Docsis modems were available in my area, I

my older modem in and swap it out. I did so, and it made a big difference
for me. My pings to my gateway are now consistantly below 50 ms, and my
online connection quality is much improved.
If I am not mistake , that ***surfer is one of the older Motorola's? If
so, you might want to see if Docsis is available in your area and consider
swapping it out ( if your renting your modem).
Of course, if it was just the one race, it could have been the server you
were connected to.

Some people do nothing wrong.
The problem is, they do nothing.
And THAT is wrong.
