New MotoRacer2 demo out TERRIBLE

by Flyin » Mon, 23 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi all,
I just DLed the new MotoRacer 2 Demo released on 11/21 I believe.
It is a shame :-( While the original demo was not too good the new one is
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse. To make matters worse it somehow overwrites
the original MR2 demo. Even though you save it to a different directory you
will lose the original. Like I said the original demo wasn't great
but........... it was much better than this. If you enjoy playing with the
original demo once in awhile dont delete it in favor of the newer version.
I only hope EA doesn't squash the SBK World Superbike sim they took over
from *** as it has the most promise of any Motorcycle sim I have seen.
Btw, does anyone here have any info on the upcoming GP 500 sim from
Ascaron?
If you have not heard of it here is a link.........

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Unfortunately it is in German but looks promising.

Cya,

Why do you think it's terrible? You didn't say.

Anyway, I've been playing the new demo, and it seems OK.
I hate the lens flare effect, and can't find any way to shut if off.
Apparently, there isn't any README file.
The F12 options have a few toggles, but lens flares aren't one of
them.

The walled tracks seem a little constraining after MX Madness, but the
scenery in incomparably better (as in, good vs. none).

Separate rider model be damned, the MotoRacer2 guy moves and controls
the bike WAY more realistically, putting his foot out when leaning,
etc.
There is some polygon goofyness where the riders hands or arms clip or
separate from the bike, but it's really only evident in replays.

The slide modelling smokes MX Madness, which has none.

The bike sound for the dirt bikes SUCKS! The bike modelled is a WR400.
It should sound different from the MXMadness or original MotoRacer
bikes since it's a four stroke. It shouldn't sound like whatever the
hell it sounds like... a vacuum cleaner or something.
(I have a SBLive! card. Maybe this is just a card issue, but I don't
think so, since all the other sounds are fine).

Hi Tim,
Well I know this is meant to be arcade at best, although at
least if you press F5 you can have a on bike view
but............................ JEEEZUS You can hold the throttle WIDE open
all the way around the track hehehe! I dont think this will have any
replayability for anyone.
Also the dirt track section was better on the 1st demo for a number of
reasons.
But one reason that both tracks were better on the first demo is
this..........
If you clip anything now even in Manual tran mode, it auto shifts down 2 or
3 gears for you. I guess they just made this game easier . Btw I know you
speak of how the bikes look from behind but Im only interested in how that
looks in a replay. While Im racing I like on bike/cockpit views.
Unfortunately the on bike view is terrible in MotoRacer2. No lean at all
instead the front steers left and right very odd on a bike eh? I guess I
have gotten spoiled by that SBK Superbike World Championship demo. I only
hope EA does'nt sqash it now. Also I hear good things about the GP500 sim
from Ascaron.
