Okay so I managed to track down N2002 (easier said than done) and have
been playing it a couple of days. So far I have most of the n00b
settings on, minus auto shift. I'm racing on Michigan, like it says to,
I'm just concentrating on one track. I raced with some AI cars as well,
but got black flagged for over taking the pace car (er woops) when it
pulled off into the pits. Ah well. It's a challenge staying on the track
and I find it takes loads of concentration drafting behind other cars
without punting them. I usually qualify 1st though, having said that I
can only 1.42.0 (you at the back, stop laughing!) on the track which is
prolly a bit pants. I'm using sequential gears, but they seem to be a
bit brutal. I think they are causing problems when I'm cornering and I
have to change down. What do the hard core N2002 drivers use? I have
auto-clutch on just now. Should I use a different gear config (ie H
pattern and manual clutch) or is it just personal preference? I would
like to try Multiplayer but I'm too green at the moment, unless anyone
knows some n00b servers that exist...
Any tips etc appreciated.

Cheers in advance,

Well it all depends on your wheel.   You do have a wheel no? :)

Most of us use sequential shifts, because that's the most standard for wheel
controllers.  But remember to lift the throttle between each shifts, that's
why you may think it's brutal.  Oh and keep the auto-clutch, I'll say most
of us use it as we don't have a third pedal for the clutch (again there's
always exceptions).

newbie servOrs?  Hey just join any Papyrus server there!  You'll learn the

And if you are correct in saying you are racing at Michigan,  a big oval,
then you shouldn't be shifting while lapping.  Only while getting underway
after yellow flag/start situations or when slowing down to enter the
pits...Otherwise...stay in 4th.
lift off the gas when shifting and practice practice practice.

Oops. I should've mentioned I use a stick, since I do some flight
simming as well, a wingman strike force 3d. Yeah mebbe lifting off the
throttle would help, that's probably what I'm doing wrong.

It's the people behind me that'll be doing that :/

Cheers

Well I'm just using the standard set up just now, 4th seems to low when
doing less than 160mph mebbe it's just getting used to the car.

Thanks

That's right, you shouldn't shift down on ovals, it will cause problems for
you!

Staying in 4th, being gentle on the throttle, and barely ever touch the
brakes.

In fact around Michigan it is faster to not use the brakes at all, just back
off where the racing groove appears and coast to the apex, slowly feed on
the throttle and power it out to the wall. With practice you don't even need
to steer - you do it all with the throttle.
