Will N2 Run on My System?

by bad.. » Sun, 15 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I am hoping to get Nascar2 for Christmas this year.  I have been very
e***d about its release as I am a big fan of the original.  My
excitment has been somehwat dampened by reading this newsgroup
however.  I have a 75MHZ Packard Bell Pentium with 16MB RAM & the
standard video/audio package that comes with most Best Buy models.
Will N2 run on my system whatsoever?  I do not mind turning off most
of the graphics (except the car detail), but I am concerned that the
game will run so slow that it won't be any fun whatsoever.  Please let
me know your thoughts.
Can anyone give me any suggestions for getting optimal performance
without buying a Rendition based video board.  I may have to buy one
eventually but do not want to run right out after Christmas & buy one.
Thank you very much for your attention.

A buddy of mine is running Nascar 2 on a 486-DX4/100 with 16 Mb RAM, *in
windows'95* just fine.  He does have some of the graphics turned off, but
he's happy!

If You ran Nascar Racing,  Nascar II is really not much different in terms
of speed.  At least not in my mind.  Some people with slower systems may
notice it more, but on the machines I've seen it,  If It ran well in N1, N2
will work just fine.  Maybe better.  The Viewport for the windshield is
smaller than it was in N1 so your computer has to move less data.  I think
the framerate is BETTER in N2 but I haven't tried any tests to verify that
other than to run both and say "Yep, that looks better."  16 MB Ram will be
plenty though maybe a little slow in the menus.  My P166 w/64 MB is slow in
the menus so get ready for that.  GET A RENDITION CARD.  WOW do they make
it pretty.  Really helps a machine of the class You have.  Go spend 200.00
just because.

I have the exact same system except I have 40 meg ram.   I know...AGH
Packard Bell....  anyway no problems running in DOS.  Windows was
another story though.  I had control problems.  The joystick _and_ the
wheel pedal combo were extremely touchy.  It made it too hard to
drive.
