Frustrating weekend trying to run Dover this weekend in N99...
anyone else notice this stuff??

First race a yellow comes out with 38 laps to go, I'm leading by
just a couple seconds after a 40 or so lap green flag run.  I
decide to drop into the pits for right sides just in case, as
most of the others appear to be doing, and I'm not completely
sure my right front is gonna make it if I get in traffic again.

So I jump into my stall and get my service and leave my pit.  As
I'm leaving, one of the tail ender (obviously lead lap tho)
morons is entering, and he happens to be right beside me, door
handle to door handle, at the pit speed limit all the way down
pit road, i'm on the inside, him the outside.  As I near the end,
he suddenly decides to attempt to go THROUGH my car to his pit,
instead of slowing down and entering his pit behind me.  Well of
course this turns us both around (quite unrealistically), but I
manage to get out of the pits.  However, the pit accident has now
blocked the pit exit!  I am the ONLY CAR ON THE TRACK for the
next 37 laps... is that absurd??  Then, after taking the
checkered flag... the race never ends :(  Jesus.  No car ever
made it out of the pit but me :(

So next day I head back for another one, trying a slightly
different setup and have a hell of a race with Jarret.  As the
first round of scheduled green flag pit stops come up, I'm
passing Mayfield out of turn 2, nice and low.  All the sudden,
the jackoff takes a complete left turn when we are door handle to
door handle as he decides he's gonna pit right now damnit even
though I'm blowing by him and pit entrance is out of turn 4.
Massive pileup results... replay is hysterically funny as the
moron just decides "time to pit right now" and just frappin runs
me over in attempt to position himself on the inside of the track
for a pit entrance that's a 2/3 mile away LOL

There is also an AI  problem on double file restarts as the
inside car feels he *MUST* get to the outside out of turn 4 when
the green drops and simply slams the leader into the wall.  Every
single time.  Easy enough to avoid when you know it's coming, but
that's just cheap ***papyrus, don't you playtest the software?

How has Papyrus let all this ***continue??  I love the game,
but Papy could have done so much better than this :(

I agree with you Hammer. It amazes me that they even let N99 out of the
door. The AI are horrible. You have to rely on updates off the net.
http://racdesign.smarthosting.com/ has some descent AI updates. I still get
random lockups every now and then. Usually after a caution. I like their
explaination, "it's your system". Seems kind of funny alot of people having
problems like that. I'm a big nascar fan and I think N99 is a joke. We can
only hope N2000 or what ever they call it, will be better.

I have learned to save the race during every yellow flag.  This is a pain, but
nothing pisses me off more than to run most of a race and have the game lock
up, and so you lose the last hours racing.

Another thing that really pisses me off is on the back straight of the last lap
of a caution before the green, the AI suddenly comes to a stop, then
accelerates to well over 100 mph to catch back up to the pace car.  I also have
gotten into the habit  of offsetting myself a full lane to the left so when the
jerks slam on their brakes I don't crunch my front end.  If the lapped cars are
beside my left, then I just hang back 4-5 car lengths until I see them do their
stop and go, then pull back up in line.  A most annoying feature.

And  there's the AI car that is going to pit will often make a huge zigzag
usually going into turn three before pitting.  If you are alongside him, you're
toast.

And there is also the AI car that has hit the wall or whatever to bring out the
caution, the spotter says pit road is closed, and I see him pit anyway, so that
when the field goes all the way around again and the pits open, the Swervin
Irvan is often done with his pit stop/repairs, in effect getting an advantage
by returning to the field unfairly too early.

hopefully Nascar2000 will be better.

Never, ever get on the inside of cars on pit lane, as you painfully learned,
because of the AI's inability to yield.  Get to the outside as soon as you can,
even if it means slowing for a bit to allow a car to pass so you can slide out.
I am also leery of passing on pit road someone who just exited if I am near
where the start finish line is.  I have been black flagged for passing under a
caution for this, even though I never sped down pit road.  So, if in doubt, I
let them go, and pass them on the restart.

Umm. Do you get the lockup at this point:

Coming to the line for one lap to go. The cars start to dart in/out the mike
keys, and ....die.....?

Make sure you have NO f-key popups up at that point. I was getting repeated
crashes until somebody mentioned this to me.  -Mark

Some of us have been asking about when a patch will be forthcoming to
address these obvious and glaring problems for quite a while now.
Absolutely no response.  My sense is the patch will be Nascar 2000...the
latest update of the N2 basic platform.  Nothing annoys me more than when we
are asked to pay for a small upgrade (e.g., N2-->NR1999, F1RS-->MGPRS2) and
the later product has as many or more bugs than the first one it is based
upon.

Marc.

I've never seen that one. It usually happens after a yellow flag when
everyone is getting in line. It doesn't happen alot just when it does it's
fustrating.  But thanks, I'll have to remember that one.
It's sad that to get a patch for this stuff, we have to get a new, yet old,
game.

I thought NR99 was worth the $0 _I_ paid for it!
