Anyone catch this on Speedvision's "Legends of Motorsport" last night?  I'd
imagine all the GPL ***s own a copy, but it gave me renewed interest in
the sim.  I guess there's a fine line drawn between courage and reckless
abandon (The 'Ring).

I'll be out there tonight!

Yes, I caught it too, but I thought it was "Nine Days in Summer"?
Anyway, it was great to see the GPL cars and drivers in the flesh, so to
speak. It's a shame that we don't have a better film of the season, one
that isn't so "artsy". The 'Ring sequences are fabulous to watch, as you
recognize parts of the track and think how you take those corners.
However, I don't think I ever got as much air as some of the cars were
getting through the Flugplatz!!

Yup, "Nine Days in Summer" it was. Caught the first half on Speedvision here
too. The "artsy" touchs were annoying , wern't they? I'd catch a glimpse of
something *really* interesting on a car but a split second later the camera
would cut away to another interesting bit which might remain on screen for
all of two seconds. Oh well ,I guess they didn't realize that 30 odd years
later there'd be a group of people with a strong interest in the events of
that summer :)  Still an intrigueing view of times past though.

It wasn't the air they got in the Flugplatz that impressed me though. It was
what they *got away* with that amazed me. For example towards the end of the
Nurburgring segment a white Honda (?Surtees?) gets the carousel all wrong
and hops (no better word for it) over the outer lip of the concrete section
about 3/4 way through the curve. It flies sideways through the air , lands
first on its outer front wheel , then sequentially on each of the other
wheels, settles down and continues on its way on the upper pavement section
with hardly any speed loss!! Try *that* in GPL! I know I'd be in a dozen or
so pieces scattered along the rail and hedges.

Wait a minute, haven't you watched the gpl.avi that comes on the CD?  All those
shots are on that video.

One of the good features of GPl is that it doesn't require the cd in the
drive so I hadn't looked at the intro in over 2 years, I'd guess.  Rushed
right to the GPL cd and sure enough the intro *does* have a lot of those
shots in it.  After going through it a dozen times I have to say that Honda
jump doesn't look quite as radical as it first looked but I still don't
think I'd get away with it in GPL. Daring men in their dangerous machines,
to be sure.
