Experience with Norton Virtual Drive?

by david_j_wil.. » Tue, 30 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I put together a new PC so I could finally play GPL properly.  While
sorting through all my accumulated games, etc., I tried installing Need
For Speed: High Stakes.  (I know, it's just an arcade game, but it came
free with the Sound Blaster Live.)  I'd decided I would keep it around
for casual entertainment, if I could install it on the harddrive and
not have to swap CDs.  I wasn't successful at that.  A Norton pack was
included with my motherboard, with Norton Virtual Drive.  This is
supposed to copy any game CD to the harddrive, compressed, and allow it
to be loaded and run from a virtual "drive".  Anyone have any
experience with this, particularly with racing sims?  I'm slightly
suspicious about what tricks it must play to fool the system, so I'm
reluctant to***up my system without hearing from someone who knows
more about it.

If you are reluctant to***up your system, take that Norton disk you got
and use it for a drink coaster or frisbee.  Norton *anything* will hog
resources and make your computer prone to crashing.

Just my opinion.

Hello,
I use a virtual drive with many games.  I use a program called Gamer's
Edition-CD copy (by IMSI).  It worls well except for games that are
copy protected.
