Can't set controls properly in ICR2

Can't set controls properly in ICR2

by Bob Leo » Wed, 09 Jan 2002 14:13:25

Has anyone had difficulty setting controls in the DOS version of ICR2?
For some reason, my copy of the program does not pause for each
setting making it impossible or ultra-difficult to make the proper
changes.  For example, if I want to change the control for the
accelerator I have to press Enter and the desired control (say the gas
pedal) in rapid succession and with perfect timing because the program
refuses to pause on the control for more than an instant.  Needless to
say this is very frustrating and totally mysterious why the program
would be acting this way.  Is there some way to get the control screen
to slow down sufficiently so that I can make the necessary changes to
each controller setting?  Any advice or experience with dealing with
this problem would be appreciated.

In lieu of a solution, would someone perhaps have a controls.cfg file
for a Microsoft Sidewinder precision racing wheel (non-FF) they would
be willing to share?  Any help with this would also be greatly
appreciated.

Sincerely,
Bob Leore

That site didn't work at all for me.

What does it try to set them to?  Try hitting 'J' and doing it again, if
that works...

i think the trick was to either disconect the mouse before booting ICR2 or
copying the calib and cntrls files from Nascar 2.  You DO still have N2
install right?
If you can find the fully patched windows version(like the version that
came with Cart Racing{ICR2 dos+Rendition+Windows}, it works pretty well with
today's computers.  Dos can be a real headache.

Hit ctrl-j.  That disables the joystick for the menu screens.

I took your advice and just substituted the controls.cfg from my copy
of NASCAR '99 into CART Racing.  It worked like a charm!  One more
important thing:  if you have a MS precision racing wheel be sure to
get the latest version of DirectX (Version 8.1 is at the MS site and
you need at least 7.0a for the wheel to work).  I noticed that bit of
information while I was at the Sierra website.  This wheel will not
calibrate without the updated version of DirectX.

Thanks,
Bob
