research student will get to play on real-world car simulators all
day, and probably publish their results too, as something other than a
'sub 1:30 at monza' posting.

VEHICLE AUTOMATION
The aim of the project is to conduct research into different
automation philosophies. The research will be conducted on the
Brunel University Driving Simulator, a purpose-built facility
containing two vehicles. In a nutshell, the research will
investigate driver reactions to 'hard' and 'soft' vehicle automation.
Potential students should have a background in human factors,
cognitive ergonomics or psychology as well as some practical
experience of (or the ability to acquire) computer programming skills.
The research students will be supported by a bursary of 6,750 pounds
in the first year and 7,000 pounds in the second and third years.
All fees will be paid. There will also be the opportunity to earn
some more money through teaching.
The deadline for both studentships is the end of the November 2001
