Ok, some people are just too damned  talented to be considered Human Beings
:)

If you haven't seen this yet you really must:

I highly recommend you download the high-quality WMV version (72MB).
Really, just do it.  You have broadband, right :)

This was done entirely in Half-Life 2 using the Source SDK and Face Poser in
Half-Life 2.

Oh, btw...

I'm not much into today's music, but the author chose one of the better
song's I've heard in a long time (Breaking Benjiman's "So Cold").

It's one of those songs that sticks in yer damned head for weeks so be
warned :)

Da da dada da...  Ah, hell.  There it goes again!

Oh man.... I thought the video and editing were sheer brilliance (thanks for
the link), however the song didn't register with me at all. Suddenly 35
feels really old. ;-((

I do now :).

G4's Cinematech should do a special on fan-made videos.  I think a few
of the GPL videos are right up there as well.

Wow.. fantastic! Even though I think HL2 sucked compared to the
tension of HL1, this video shows how superb the engine of HL2 is ;)

I'm 47 as of Wednesday, and usually I don't dig this sort of music either
(I'm an old fashioned Eagles, Bob Segar, Tom Petty, Who, Aerosmith, etc...
kinda guy).

But I like this song, and I know why.

It's not the words.  It's not the lead guitar.

It's the chord progression.

I learned about 10 years ago from my Guitar Instructor that Minor Chord
progressions promote 'anticipation', and some of the best songs ever written
use Minor Chord progressions heavily.

It's one of the primary reasons why Don Felders (one of the most brilliant
guitarists who never gets the respect he deserves) work with the Eagles
"Hotel California" is considered brilliant, and most people don't really
understand why they like it so much :)  Let's face it, it isn't the Lyrics
LOL.  Of course the lead sections (especially the end-of-song lead duel
between Felder and Walsh) add to the song as well.  Walsh was responsible
for writing much of that closing lead duel, but the main song construction
and chord progressions were all Felder (according to history).

"So Cold" by Breaking Benjamin sounds like it uses a strong minor chord
progression and that's probably why it appeals to me.

I've listened to samples of most of their other songs since I saw this
video, and guess what.  I don't care for them :)

I've been analyzing this since the day I was told this, and I'll be damned
if my instructor wasn't right.

Maybe it's geographic location rather than age.  I'm 37, but that song still
punches the right buttons (of course, anything from Mozart to Miles Davis to
Linkin Park still punches my buttons).  Must have been the whole
Seattle-grunge thing we North Americans were going through when I was in my
20s.  The Europeans, on the other hand, had Skooter to shape their musical
preferences.  :-)
