Seems Microsoft is pulling out of peripherals manufacture. Assuming a store
clears out existing stock is the Sidewinder FF wheel worth it?

I personally think so, especially if you get one at a good buy. I have been
running one for about 9 months now, and have been pleased with it.

Yes...aside from a well-documented anomaly w. N2003: the FF comes and goes
arbitrarily, both between driving sessions, and sometimes, disturbingly,
during a session (which feels something like hitting a patch of the dreaded
Black Ice).

And, no, MS is not abandoning peripherals like mice & keyboards, only the
Sidewinder line, which includes the wheel and an excellent FF joystick.

Absolutely.  It's a very reliable wheel, has almost zero pot problems, is
built like a Tank, and will last years.  The pedals are the best in the
business.

Mine is going on 4 years old and with the exception of a now slightly
sticking left shifter button, has given me zero trouble.

Alas, the software, while functional, hasn't been updated in years (and
years).

Interesting.  I've never had a problem with the FF going away in any version
of NR.

I had a problem with wheel input no longer being recognized
periodically using Windows 98 and GPL/N4/N2002/N2003.  Strangely
moving to XP (on the same machine with the same wheel) fixed the
problem.  I used to get prompted to recalibrate my wheel once every
day or two as well.

Have you played F1 Challenge '99-'02 with the Microsoft ? I'm having
difficulties getting a smooth input to accelerator and brake. It seems
very.."digital". Steering is fine and GPL is very good.

My MSFF wheel is pretty good and high on quality/durability. I did rush out
and buy a new Sidewinder joystick though.

The problem I have now is that the wheel grabs 'controller position 1' in
WinXP so I can't use the joystick and pedals combo with the new USB stick
anymore. I have to use the older gameport stick for this.

I haven't done much in F1C yet, but the steering in that series has always
felt lousy to me anyway.
