GrandPrix2 question

by rs » Wed, 09 Apr 1997 04:00:00

I was hoping someone could answer this question for me:

Do MicroProse's GrandPrix2 and/or Eidos Power F1 allow complete hard
drive installation (once installed, no longer need the CDROM) and do
they have null-modem (serial cable) connect for multiplayer?

One of my computers (a laptop) doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, so I would
like to completely install the games on the hard-drive of my desktop and
then transfer the files over to my laptop so I can play multiplayer via
a serial cable.

Indycar2 does have the hard drive installation option and I wanted to
make sure these games have it too.

Disclaimer: As a programmer, I respect any software companies wishes for
customers not to install the game on more than one computer, so I am
willing to buy two copies, even If I never have to use one.

Thanks for the help.

There's a utility out there on several sites (NoCDROM.zip, I think) which allows
you to play GP2 without CD-ROM.

GrandPrix 2 requires the CD to be in the drive in order to run the game.
However, there is a hack on the web (just do a search for GP2 - there are
loads of sites) called NOCDROM in zip form (about 1 meg in size) which
allows you to run the game without the cd. Although I own the game I
installed this patch for the conveniance. I think it just re-writes the
files on the hard drive which point to the CD, making them point to the HD
files instead. I can't help with Power F1, but I read a review of the game
and although the graphics are good the gameplay is meant to be poor. I
think it got 48%.
