GPL: Gauge page correction

Steve Smith pointed out some stuff to me that needed clarification on the
GPL gauge page regarding throttle application. I incorrectly was referring
to the lifting-of-your-foot-off-the-throttle as "blipping" and this should
really be referred to as "breathing".   Anyway, you can check out the page
at:

or read the corrected text below:

Tachometer
If you are into sims enough to be driving GPL, you probably know what this
one does already. It measures your engine's revolutions per minute. Don't
rev too high for too long with Damage set to Realistic or you will blow your
engine. That is what race drivers call "bad". Try not to do it.

Also, I have noticed a lot of posts on rec.autos.simulators from people who
are saying they are blowing their engine a lot. Assuming they are not doing
what I stated above (extended periods of maximum revs), they may not be
"breathing" the throttle on upshifts. What I mean by this is, right before
you upshift, lift your foot off of the throttle briefly, shift up, then back
on the throttle. Overrevving a few times on upshifts isn't a bad thing for a
hot lap or in an emergency, but during a race, it will take its toll on the
motor. Learn how to "breathe" your throttle!

Actually, once you get good at shifting you'll notice it takes a few moments
for the driver to move his hand over to the gear knob and shift.  You can
press the up-shift key, wait for a split second, then "breath" the throttle and
get right back in the gas.

Every little bit of accelleration counts :)

The only problem with having to breathe the throttle on upshifts is that
it's rather difficult for those of us with GP1 wheels.  I'm still not
getting it right 100% of the time - it's hard to get your hand positioned in
such a way that you can press the upshift button while relaxing your fingers
on the accelerator, especially while cornering.

Yes! That's the only way I was able to drive with the GP1 without
getting "fumble-fingers".

I have a solution for you. Upshift with the left button instead of right
button. I have always used my GP1 that way. I wonder if anyone else uses GP1
this way too?

I'd thought about that, but it might be tough to get in the habit :)  The
right thumb just KNOWS it's supposed to handle upshifts.........

Yep, absolutly. You can downshift with your right thumb and modulate
the binders with your left hand. Walk and chew bubblegum.

Yup... I switched to using the left button for upshift also. It makes it
much easier to brake and downshift at the same time...
