Is NASCAR Truck Series sim possible?

by Allen E. Babco » Mon, 03 Feb 1997 04:00:00

I am a huge fan of nascar racing (both real and sim) and have done little in
my spare time but race my buddy over the modem.  (BTW, we are going to run
the full season, each track on the weekend of the race and see who is where
in the standings at the end of the season.)  As much as I love WC racing, I
follow the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with much more enthusiasm.  I'm
partial to short track racing (I remember when Darlington was a HUGE track)
and would dearly LOVE to see Sierra/Papyrus release a Truck sim.  I know
squat about computuer programming but it stands to reason that the majority
of the work necessary to create the sim has all ready been done. (Yes? No?)
Does anyone think this may happen in the future?  As popular as Nascar racing
is and as popular as Truck racing is becoming, I would think a profit could
easily be made with a Truck sim (Yes? No?) Just hoping for for the sim that
would probably end up buried with me.....

I would venture to say that much of the programming for a truck sim
could be used just the same as Nascar2.  Trucks from the Craftsman
series weigh similarly, handle similarly, have same power, have same
handling adjustments, and even sound just like Winston Cup cars.  This
would be a cool add-on for Papyrus to market for Nascar2 and I would
guess that it would sell enough to justify the project.  Will this
happen.  I have no idea.  We can only speculate and hope.  I think this
is a cool idea though!

I'm not much of a NASCAR Craftsman Truck series fan, but I think such a
sim could be easily made, and will probably be made sometimes in the
future.

I have found, on the web, a Nascar Truck car set to be used within
Nascar racing. I do not know if one exists yet for Nascar 2 but would
think that it should/would be out soon.
The only think I can figure is different between the Cars and Trucks is
how they are painted. The Trucks are painted to look like a truck. (ie.
back half painted to look like a truck bed.

I heard or read somewhere that someone had created a converter for
Nascar 1 that changed the cars to trucks(I think it mighta been
"The Pits"),but I never actually saw it. If so, maybe the cat who
created it could make one for N2.

Can anyone verify this?

Hi David,

A N1 truck set is/was available from IWCCCARS.  With a little patience,
someone will get one made for N2.

Heh, I'm still holding my breath for the short track (3/8-1/2mi.) Dirt
Late model outlaw, and/or the Stadium off-road truck sim I suggested 3
years ago. And yes I'm turning awfully blue by now :)
