Racing Legends: Recent April Fools Joke

Question:  Does anyone here really think this is going to happen?  Or
are the West Brothers yanking everyones chains?  I will give my
opinion first.  I think that this is somewhat of a far fetched idea by
the West Brothers.  We have GPL already, and they seem to take up time
painting transporters.  I don't know about you, but I don't give a
***about team transporters, I care about physics and racing.  Anyone
else have an opinion they wish to share about this "supposed
simulation!"

Stranger things have happened, but they appear to have bitten on more
than they can chew.  In the time that the West Brothers have been
working on WSC/RL, we've seen the development of Racer, GTR, GTR FIA, F1
2002, and LFS.  You have to ask yourself, if these development shops and
individuals can produce concrete examples of their work, then why can't
the West Brothers?  Hell, it takes these guys over 6 months to move to a
new house.  How many people do you know that stop their work lives for 6
months in order to move?  IMO, it's not going to happen.

Look at it this way, have you ever seen any game to date with even half the
detail of the objects they are proposing to create?
Now consider these object running in a pack of say 15 other cars all at the
same level of detail, passing fixed trackside objects at this detail, all in
real time.  it just isn't possible with today's computers.  To even do this
for a film it requires rendering farms and that isn't for real-time display.

Why would they need to model the insides and outside of objects and every
nut and bolt of an engine if you never can see them in game?

I may be wrong but to me its nothing more than a hoax.  Anyone with some 3D
modelling skills could do up what they have on their site in a week and
claim to be working on something.

In fear of waking the slumbering D.E., it's perfectly clear to me why Empire
dumped these guys. Not lack of commitment or attention to detail, just the
fact that they wouldn't be able to meet ANY deadlines for completing the
game.

Attention to detail is NOT something that they lack.  It's the details
in which they seem to be lost.  I can't believe that anyone would waste
more than 4 hours researching, or modeling a trailer.  If you're writing
a book about Lotus in the late 60's, maybe.  But for a game/simulation?
What they need to do is to focus on the things that will get the
game/simulation out the door.  Reach for the stars, but keep your feet
on the ground. :)

Ya its kinda funny to read their post on the bus and how they couldn't find
blueprints for it and what not.

That's WHY they are taking their time.. every 18 months they wait, processor
speeds get a little bit closer to the speed they need to be to run RL.

I've given up on RL seeing the light of day.  From the reports we've
seen/heard, I personally think they're wasting their time on superfluous stuff.
Transporters?  Fully modelled engine animations?  Ugh.
But, I'm not an investor, so it doesn't cost me anything to wait.  If it ever
comes into existence, I'll do what I can to get a copy.  If it doesn't, oh
well.  It's not like I don't have *enough* racing games to stink in already...

2004:

...and so they bump up the detail a bit more? Meaning that it's in
effect "jam tomorrow" for ever?
