I just did last week when I got my Logitech FF wheel and had no trouble related to it yet. Gee, a few days with no trouble after installing something from microsoft. Yes, I have turned the computer on and used it a couple times. I didn't use the FF with Dx6 so I can't comment on its "Upgraded" performance.
Vastly better controller support and FFB. 7.0a was meant for people who use game controllers.

You should always use the latest drivers, DX, etc. People have problems when they have one or more (usually no-name) components that don't have up-to-date or DX-compatible drivers. I have immediately upgraded my DX since version 3 and have had absolutely no problems. But the problems other have are REAL! You decide.
