F1 is out for sale in Germany! I'll send some first impression report
shortly!
This is the promised quick-review, after only a very brief time of ***.
My system's specifications: Intel 166MHz non-MMX/ 32RAM/Monster 3D
4MB/Soundblaster Pro (antique)/Virtual Pilot Pro + Pro Pedals
Installation: F1 requires the lates drivers, DirectX vers. 5+ and Glide
vers.2.43. This is no problem, the CD comes with a large stock of lates
drivers. So installation is no problem, but you will probably have to
restart the system and it is not really obvious, which files have been
exchanged (if any). My system behaves different since then, but so far I
haven't detected any problems.
First start: after clicking through some menues, the program halts showing
some error message.
That happened only once.
Second start: trying out some modes, mainly to check the graphics and frame
rates.
Frame rates: at full detail, depending on the number of cars and the view
mode, the frame rate differ (of course). The peculiar thing is, that with a
"camera" perspective showing many cars and details, the rates are higher
than with the "cockpit" perspective and the same amount of cars. That means,
if you start a race from the last position with many cars before you, the
rates are really low. So you better practice for the pole!
Evaluation: o.k.
Graphics: I don't like the colours, they look too much like, I don't know,
NINTENDO or SEGA titles. Apart from that, the race courses are very
detailed. Light effects are impressive: going into and coming out of the
tunnel on the Monaco track is really blinding! The tracks are very detailed
and just look like on TV. Yet on some courses the side of the tracks are
blue (!) instead of brown, grey or green.
Evaluation: could be better for me
Perspectives: countless different camera/view perspectives, very good!
Features: F1 GP II given as a reference there is at least one big
improvement: rain. The display is nice, but (another BUT), even if there is
only a small probability of rain (2%) and the track is absolutely dry, rain
is being dispayed!
Evaluation: could be better
The biggest BUT so far: this game does not support CH-pedals, just plain
4-axis joysticks!!!
I'll ask for an explanation and will keep you advised.
Mail you later,

You have to use an adapter to put GP1 and CH Pedals on one joystick.

What adapter are you referring to?
There is a thread here which seems to be discussing using
CH Pedals on Joystick A. If there is any way to do this, then
I would be interested to know how !
It is my understanding that they can only be used on Joystick B
This is a shame, because these are the finest racing pedals
made and thanks to inconsiderate Win95 racing game developers,
there are numerous titles which don't support joystick B
electronics.
I also heard that F1RS does indeed support CH Pedals and that it
is a question of getting the Win95 joystick setup conditions right,
before customising the controller within the game.
Although this support did not exist in the demo, the full game
does include it. A German F1RS user with CH Pro Pedals has confirmed
this to me. I had also corresponded with a Ubi technical representative
in Montreal, Quebec who promised that such support would feature in
the final shipping product.

My problem is this:
the left pedal is recognized by the "configuration menue" as 4th axis, but
within the game it has no function, i.e. it does not work. The only way to
use the pedals is to configure the right pedal as 3rd axis up and the left
pedal as 3rd axis down. Then the left pedal will still have no function, but
you can use the right pedal as "accellerator" and "brake" by applying and
releasing it. That's not really realistic or comfortable!
Does anybody have the same problem?
Best regards,
Heiko
yep same here...no workaround yet
I got an adaptor from Thrustmaster that flips JOY2 X axis to JOY1 Y
axis. I'm going to pick up a 'Joyswitch' box and from my understanding
this will do the same thing as well as having multiple joysticks
hooked up.

Hi!
I was wondering, I have a P200 (non-MMX) with 32mb ram and a cirrus
logic 2mb video card. (so no 3dfxcard). Will i be able to play Ubisoft
F1RS?
and what a about the same system olnly with a P166MMX instead of a
P200?
thanx!
Hello Rick
You seem to have caught a piece of my wheel & pedals posting.
I was recommending not to purchase the Thrustmaster Nascar Pro/Formula 1
wheel & Pedals set because the pedals are awful.
You cannot run the Ubisoft F1 simulation on your Cirrus Logic.
You need either a 3dfx card or a D3D compatible 3D card with
4mb RAM. I personally recommend a 3dfx card for best results.
I have played the 3dfx demo of F1RS and do not currently have
the full version. I was very impressed with the demo on my P233mmx
Apparently a P166mmx meets the requirements
to run the game well. However many who have the game are complaining'
about its performance, whilst others say performance is good.
It is a little confusing in this area. I will be getting the
game soon (Imported from the U.K) so I will post my verdict
as soon as the Canadian Postal strike ends (Groan....)
Cheers John Cookson (Canada)
With 3Dfx it should be about the same.
You NEED a 4Mb 3D card for this title, but only 3Dfx Voodoo is supported
natively. Others will work via Direct3D, but don't run as well.
It's worth the price of a 3Dfx card.
