Power supply cables?

Power supply cables?

by Jim Teste » Wed, 06 Feb 2002 10:53:08

I'm putting together a new AMD system, with the ATX board.  The case I
bought has an AMD approved 300 watt power supply.

There were no instructions that came with the case, and I'm confused which
cable goes where.  I connected the main 20-pin cable to the board itself.
But there a couple more cables besides the disk and HD cables.  I'm assuming
that one will go to the extra fan on the back of the case.  The connectors
are just like the HD connectors.

But there's a little square 4-connector box.  And also another five-wire
cable that's black-black-orange-orange-red.  Where does that go?

Thanks in advance...

Try a Google search for the case model and the motherboard model.  You should
be able to track down enough info to help.  Aren't the connectors on the case
marked?

Riddle : the shitty looking 4 pin connector is for a shitty piece of
equipement made by a shitty manufacturer who always makes "new" devices so
you have to change everything when you buy a new part....

Solution : Intel has designed a new shape for a fan plug....

I haven't got one of these power supplies...BUT....from postings I've seen
on pentium4s I believe that the square 4 connector box (dunno about the
other black-black-orange-etc) is the extra 12 volt supply required for the
Pentium 4...AFAIK this isn't used for AMDS ...only used for the P4

cheers

Thanks for all the help on the cables.  Like you said...they're for the
Intel boards.
