new system - what's best?

by (alan » Mon, 03 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Sorry to ask things that have probably been abswered before, but I
haven't been keeping up to date....

I'm about to buy a new system.  My main concern is to be able to run
GPL and GP3 at full speed.

I'm currently using a 300a overclocked to 450, plus a Thriller video
card.

I like the sound of the GeForce card - but what's it like for GPL?

I was interested to read above about the Celeron 600 overclocking to
875 without problem - but will that be OK for GP3?

I'm going to get a large hard disk, preferably 20GB+ - any
recommendations? (I want the large hard disc for saving all my GPL
replays, plus so I can set up Linux as well as win98)

From what I've read before, it's worth using a USB modem and USB wheel
- but is it worth spending an extra $250 to get FF (that's Australian
dollars and buying from local distributors - I don't have acredit card
so purchasing via the net is a real hassle)

Any answers to the above, or pointers to good sites to get this sort
of info would be much appreciated. I've posted here because the only
thing I actually need a good system for is GPL and, I'm hoping, GP3.

Thanks

Alan

Well, i built a new system for GPL only after running the demo, I would

thriller. Unfortunately my cpu took a dump recently, so I popped in a
celeron 566and o/c'd it too 850, not bad for a $100 cpu, and I also added
a 20 gig drive. However I am waiting on the video card because GPL runs
well enuf now and there may be a superior card by the time you really need
it. Right now I would get the geo64meg video if I had the money.

What kind of mobo do you have, and where did you get the celeron from?  I'm
only running a K63/400, and want a faster system...
