MSRW Kart 2002: Call for ghosts

by Berthold Joseph » Thu, 13 Jun 2002 04:31:29

Hi,

I've setup a 'functional' wepage to collect ghosts for the simulation
'Michael Schumacher Racing World Kart 2002' - and I would be happy, if
you send in your best recordings.

the laptime in this mail) and I will copy it to my website.

If you want to help me, you can rename your ghost file:
  fun_01_jpn.ghost -> fun_01_jpn_<time>.ghost
for example
  fun_01_jpn.ghost -> fun_01_jpn_003356.ghost

You can add a text-file where you mention your name, nickname, email
address and comments, right now this file will be simply provided for
download too.

Kind of off-topic, but is this built on the same engine as Open Kart
or did they redo things?

I think it's a complete different engine.
I've only tested the Open Kart demo for a very short time, it looks
and feels completely different.
Open has been developed by 'Microids' (a french company) whereas MSRW
Kart 2002 has been created by 'Terratools', a german company.

But you can never be sure, i.e. HalfLife does not look like Quake1.

Thanks.  I forgot Open Kart was distributed by Microids and not
JoWood, so I immediately passed this one off as being bad as Open Kart
was.

How is the handling in MSRW Kart?  Does it lean towards the realism
side or is just a lot of fun?

There's a demo for it.
http://www.avault.com/pcrl/demo_temp.asp?game=worldkart2k2 I think it's
fantastic. Only problem is there will be no online play.

I can only judge the slow karts, and these are very realistic in
handling and feeling ( I regularly drive little races), the sound
could be better, but it's good compared with Open Kart.
In Open Kart I found the feeling of the speed very bad, going up a
hill felt really slow while the game sad '80-110 km/h'.
If you stear to strong in MSRW Kart, you slide and loose speed, even
with the slow karts.

Main problems:
- no online races
- bad KI

It has been (unofficially) said, that there will be an add-on in
autumn introducing online races - I believe it, if it's out.

Try the demo, buy the game :-)

Online racing? I hope that's true becasue I really think that would be a lot
of fun if it works well.
