help! voodoo2 doesn't work

by Dr. B » Wed, 12 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Recently I moved and upon setting up my PC at the new house I don't
get any 3D graphics with my voodoo2.  (I'm computer illiterate so
please excuse any faux-pas.)  I still get some graphics as long as
they are of a simpler type (my kids can still play putt-putt).

Symptom 1:  Now when I try to play Need for Speed, I hear the the
engines roar but the screen is blank.  Ditto for Need for Speed High
Stakes and Toy Story II (kids again).

Symptom 2:  I can't tell if the steering wheel works with N4S but I do
know that when I try to use a sidewinder game pad with a none 3D
version of Toy Story the sidewinder doesn't work (Buz don't move).

Are the joystick and video card inked?  Does anyone know what's gone
wrong?  Better yet how I fix it. The kids got Toy Story for Christmas
and I'm grinch around here for not being able to get it to work.  Any
help would be appreciated.  Please don't tell me to move back.

Cheers,  Dr. Bob

>Can anyone say computer illiterate?

Because you aren't getting any output from the VooDoo card but your regular
video card seems to be working, I am tempted to say it may have become
slightly dislodged in the move.  Try opening up the computer and re-seating
the VooDoo card.  That shouldn't affect your joystick operation, but jiggle
the soundcard while you're in there, anyway.

All this presumes you didn't remove the 'jumper' between the VooDoo and your
regular card and forget to replace it when you reassembled the machine.
Stranger things have happened.

hope this helps
