I have read the reviews in PC Gamer and CGW and both make this out to be the
F! game to buy. Can I impose on the experts to also give their opinion
before I buy. A short one or two lines is all I ask. Thanks in advance.

If you have a 3dfx video card, this is the F1 simulation (at the moment)
to have installed on your "racing" machine.  If you don't have a Voodoo
based card, F1RS is one very good reason to have one in your "racing"
machine.

Me (Pro F1RS) This is great, it feels like an ultra performance
                 road car.

John Wallace (Races real cars, Anti F1RS)
Formula One cars don't handle anything like road
                 cars.

Check out dejanews.  This has been done to death.

   Three points -
There are no experts in F1 car handling who post here.
We'll never drive real F1 cars.
I can't post anything in one or two short lines.

I don't have F1RS, so I can't comment on it. What I do know is that
Grand Prix 3, a sequel to GP2, is due sometime in the next 25 years.

It will have very nice 3d graphics and stuff.

Very well put :-)     (that is my one line)

It takes a bit of effort, especially when configuring controllers. On an
intel P200MMX with a 3dfx Voodoo Rush I found the performance a bit
sluggish, but on a PII-266 with the same graphics card and a full
install, performance is not an issue. If you have much time invested in
GP2 you will find the handeling alien, but keep plugging away, this game
rewards effort.

The physics are***poor. Unless you really believe that F1 cars are front wheel drive.
Most fun I've ever had in a game though. The racing is excellent.

Ohhh, I see! You're commenting the clutch slip that F1RS uses so much?
My thought is that the designers of the physics of the game must have
decided that a F1 car is way to difficult to drive (you can spin it with
a flick on the throttle), and eased this a bit by partially
free-coupling  the clutch. I've noticed this myself, and to be honest, I
find it a bit irritating. When the rear wheels spin (like when you floor
the gas in 2nd), the car goes straight forward, and this is the reverse
effect of a real F1 car. I haven't noticed if the rear wheels get worn
by this, though...

Another thing is the thing that happens when you release the gas. It
seems that the same thing is happening, the clutch is applied... This is
a pity, because you then loose all that information in the sound...

Weird. I was just thinking about that last night. I was also thinking about how in real life, a very important instinct that one MUST develop is to get the clutch in as soon as it's positive that the car is getting away from you. Otherwise you sit with a stalled motor. I realize that you would need to install a clutch controller in order for that to work in the sims, it's just something that's been missing that I couldn't put my finger on until now.
