My N99 Rants and Raves

My observations of Nascar 1999....

Rants
1. HATE the dash, hate the gauges, especially the tach.  Isn't the needle
supposed to point
straight up at redline? N2 tach's do.
2. On my system, the sound sucks with the W95 3Dfx file.  The spotter sounds
like he's in a bathroom, the AI cars sound like blow dryers.
3. Everything I read says  that a V2 sli setup has allot more 3D horsepower
that a Rendition V2200.  I own a pair of Canopus Pure 3D ll LX's and a Herc
Thriller.  The 3Dfx version is choppy, and I am using the N2FXLOAD line in
the .bat file.  The Rendition version is smooth as glass on my system.  Why
is that?
4. N2HQ don't work with it. boo.
5. One bug I found...using the 3Dfx version, when I pause the race then
unpause, the race resumes but the video has about a 1 sec delay, just in
time to watch the crash. UNACCEPTABLE.

Raves
1. Love the trucks, big fun.
2. Love the new tracks, squares, triangles, skinny ovals, fat ovals, d
shapes, etc, ohhh baby.
3. seems like you can actually bump other cars without crashing so easily.
4. Basically, it's free after the rebate.  Gotta love that.

All in all, I really do enjoy it.  The Rendition version runs as well as the
N2 Rendition does, and we get all the updated tracks, trucks to race on the
tracks, and it's a gimmie.
Thanks Papyrus and Sierra!!

You got me there.

Doesn't happen on my system. I get the same sound whether I am using
W95/3dfx or the DOS/3dfx for multiplay. What CPU and soundcard do
you have? And how do you know you have the latest drivers?

Correct.

Something wrong with your system setup? However I will mention that
most people do report some pausing in the corners of some tracks using
3dfx, even with fast P2's. I suspect Papy hasn't figured out how to properly
code for 3dfx. But NR1999 is a huge improvement over the old 3dfx beta
patch.

Figures.

I agree that would be unacceptable. However I have a lowley P5-200MMX
with a Monster 3D (old 3dfx) and I have never had something like that
happen.
That is why I suspect a driver problem.

O.K. Greg..I'll bite, here's the scoop

I'm using the latest CL SoundBlaster drivers that were just posted, about 10
days old.
Canopus Pure drivers 1.30, Herc drivers .85, Basically the latest of
everything.

Nothing wrong that I'm aware of.  Other 3Dfx games/ sims run well, Q2,
Unreal, NFS3, etc.
I get the pausing, stuttering video in the corners.

N2FXLOAD=0X200000, Improved the video...
N2FXLOAD=0XFFFFFFFF, Improved the video even more, but did not eliminate the
pausing completly.

Thanks for the response.
