Sports Car GT: Odd display problems w/ mouse

To start out, ill give a description of my system, so you know whats what:

Asus P2B Bios rev 1007
64MB PC100 TI (Texas Instruments?) SDRAM
Intel Celeron 300A (450) 2.0v  + GlobalWin Fab 2-4
STB Velocity V4400 AGP w/ TNT Detonator 1.15
Diamond MX300
Creative 24Xmx
Win98 w/ all the latest updates + IE5
192MB Swap File

(It did this with the demo, and i never solved the problem with that. It
also
does this with the STB 1.52 drivers as well. No other processes are running,
not even RC5. :) )

Now, the game runs fine, it runs beautifully and only slows down if im in
the
middle of the pack at the start of the race (w/ all options on).  The
problem
is that the mouse leaves trails in the option menus. It doesnt do this in
the replay,
and there arent any problems in the game. Half Life did this to me before I
increased
the swap file to 192MB. Now thats pretty big, and I dont want to have to
make it even bigger!
Im thinking it just needs extra memory, Ive used all the options in the
Nvidia Quicktweak control
panel, I think ive exhausted all my options. Is this a bug, because the demo
did it too. BTW,
whats the purpose of the alternative alpha blend. The readme said some
Nvidia cards might
need this, mine is fine without it. I cant be the only person having this
problem, can anyone help?
BTW, any tweaking or tuning tips out there to keep everything running smooth
(It pretty smooth
now, but every little bit helps). Thanks in advance.

I'm havin the same problems with my Viper 550 (TNT), and I don't use the
Detonator drivers, seems like the TNT isn't the ideal card to show the
menus, it's beutiful and quick in race though, so I can live with the
flaws in the menu :)

I checked that, In fact, even if I enable mouse trails, they wont even
show up on the desktop, or in any applications. I going to reinstall
the mouse's software and drivers to see if it helps any.  I dont use
animated cursors either. I do have a microsoft wheel mouse, so I
disabled the wheel, the trails still show up. They arent mouse trails
in the conventional sense, that show up and go away, these
stay on screen until I click a menu or option. Someone suggested
using Alternate Alpha Blend, but it didnt go away. Ive tried different
resolutions as well, still there. Oddly, they only happen if I move the
cursor to the left or up. Never down or to the right. The game
is still great though, its just these mouse trail artifacts are annoying.
