Dear RAS friends,

Yesterday, my brother, Terry Deatherage  passed away after a seven year
battle with lymphoma cancer. He
is now pain free and is at peace.

He was a  nationally known AMA flat track  motorcycle racer  number 33n
(1961-1974)  He raced primarily in the Midwest and ran in the annual
Astrodome and Okla. City Nationals.

In 1974,  he switched to Late Model stock cars and won features throughout
the Midwest ( e.g. Kansas and Mo) and ran the NCRA Late Model circuit for
numerous years. In 1980, he ran the USAC Stockcar circuit (Yes... they ran a
Stockcar series on dirt and asphalt.! )  I have race programs from Texas
World Speedway and Winchester where he raced with young hotshot racers named
Rusty Wallace, Kenny Schrader, and Alan Kulwicki. He ran for USAC rookie of
the year but  dropped out because of loss of sponsorship. He even crashed On
ESPN in a dirt track race at Springfield !

He was a successful business man who owned several businesses in the Optical
industry and the motorcycle industry and raced for the fun of it. Over a
thousand people came to pay their respects at his funeral.

I am a dwarf and I do not get around real well and he knew I was a "Sim
***." and he told his friends that I was "'puter racing" He never got
around to seeing all of the neat sims I play with. Nevertheless, I could
experience a simulated race with his type of car and be like my BIG brother
!

Thanks for your time!

I know how you feel Tim, i had a friend i knew ever since we were both
about 5 years old. We grew up together and raced together, both in club
competitions and sim racing. I remember the good times we used to have
both on and off the track and i remember him for those good times and
the fierce competitions that usually ensued whenever we linked up on
our computers, or met on the track....
My friend was killed in a road accident just recently, by a drunk
driver and i can't help but think of the good times we would have had
in GPL.
He always said to me,"I hope someone brings out a decent damm sim
before we get to old."
While we are thinking of them, they are still with us.
I commiserate with you Tim, and i bet Terry and Graham (my mate) , who
was a fanatical motor cyclist, sim racer and general motor head are
discussing racing this very minute.....
Cheers,
Ron

You have my deepest felt sympathies.  When I when my next sim race, I
will do a "Polish" (Kulwicki) victory lap in his honor.

Very sorry for your loss. I bet your brother knows exactly how much you
admired him.
