Racers and Gamers:

Today I got an email about upgrading my connection.  Major difference for just $25.00 more a month..

Might be available in your area as well.  This is from TIME WARNER ROAD RUNNER!   Which by the

way isnt part of Time Warner no more!!

Don Wilshe

We've just made working at home faster and easier!  Now you can run your home-based business or work from home for less than a DSL!  Get 384 Kbps upstream and 2 Mbps downstream with a static IP all for only $69.95 per month.  Imagine working on that big project and having access to all your work files from your home PC.  That is now possible using a static IP address that is included in our new Virtual Office package.  Get all the benefits of a Business Class account which includes: dedicated bandwidth providing faster speeds, access to our commercial only technical support line, and priority in trouble calls.  All this without the hassle of a contract!

*** has more to do with the ping times and consistency than speed and
bandwidth.  Unless your hosting a server this won't help much IMHO.

I don't know what average prices are in the US but up here on the west
coast of Canada, you can get 512up/1.5mb down for $35cdn a month.  That
sounds like a bit of a rip off to me.

Well, that's better than the 192k-up/1.5mbit-down that I have, but that 384k-up isn't really going to help much in hosting.  The 500kbit increase, while nice, isn't much either.

Sounds like a pricey upgrade for $70 a month.  My 192k/1.5mbit is $35.

Does that price INCLUDE the modem rental, and is it a lot cheaper without?  I have my own modem so I save $15 a month.

Problem with telus is that they have upload/download limits.  I've
heard of users who were using file sharing software, and then they get
a huge bill for several hundred dollars.  Personally I know tons of
users who use telus DSL, but have found speeds are better via cable,
but of course this is an old debate and is based on location, density
and usage of the broadband connection.

IMHO DSL ain't all it's cracked up to be, especially service wise.

DSL is all it's cracked up to be when certain limitations are met.  Vie had
both Charter Pipeline and SBC DSL and their isn't any question that for
*** DSL is the better option.   Does any of what I said pertain to all
people in all situations?  No.
