OT-more good news for CART

From AR1

CART worldwide TV viewership higher than expected-  For quite some time we
have published estimated TV viewership numbers for CART of between 1 and 2
billion per year.  Although we were very conservative in our estimates, some
still refuted the data.  We have learned today at Fontana that the German
race alone had 157 million worldwide viewers and we will have a fully
documented report next week to substantiate these numbers.  The top German
TV research firm was hired to do the in-depth analysis.  Is there any reason
to believe the other 19 races didn't get similar numbers? If we say 150
million per race, for 20 races, you can do the math. MC

but, but, but, I thought CART was dead...........?

It is.  (If it wasn't, sponsors, spectators & "strategic partners" like
Honda & Toyota wouldn't be deserting the sinking ship.)  R.I.P.

Steven,
there is no sinking ship. CART will be fine. They are re-doing the engine
plan as we speak.
Bad management? maybe, but that is being taken care of too, so cheer up!
BTW what sponsors? Tobacco? good! they are gone after 2006 anyway, get rid
of them now.
And what spectators? There were 300,000 at Surfers last week.
And as far as engine manufacturers, they come and they go, don't they.

Of course there were 300,000 in Australia.  What other big  racing events do
they have to go to that weekend?
CART is history

In place of what, IRL?  What engine manufacturers are there in IRL?  Since
attendance outside the US is no problem and even some races in the US are
well attended, I am assuming it is the manufacturers you are referring to
spelling the death of CART?

Marc.

Put this in your irl pipe and smoke it Ryan-
Mexico City2002 will be the biggest race in the world.....
From AR1- (read the last paragraph)

We hear that five very large firms are interested in sponsorship of CART's
Mexico City race.  As we have reported in the past, one is Toyota, the
others are a South American tobacco company who are coming out with a new
brand of cigarettes, a large telecommunications company, Corona, and another
large Mexican firm. We hear Toyota is opening a lot of new dealerships in
Mexico City, so race sponsorship fits in well for them.  The most
interesting news is that the promoters are starting to say they may get an
attendance of 400,000 on race day.  With Indy having right around 300,000
seats, and the infield crowd not being much these days, it seems almost
certain now that CART's Mexico City race will displace the Indy 500 as the
biggest race in the world. MC

Put this in your irl pipe and smoke it too.....
From AutoRacing1:

FOX/Speedvision/Speed Channel to advertise CART on Super Bowl

Just as FOX did with NASCAR last year, CART's new TV partners have
taken out two 30-second ads for this years Super Bowl as a lead up to
the 2002 CART season.  We spoke to some CART team marketing folks
today who told us they are quite pleased with what they heard today
from the new TV partners. They are very enthusiastic about next year.
Although Speedvision does not reach as many households as network TV
or ESPN, they are the 5th fastest growing channel and big things are
expected of them in coming years.

I don't watch either series, so I won't smoke anything thank you very much
:-)
Any time I try to watch any open wheel racing, be it IRL, CART, or F1, I
somehow think of the Thanksgiving Day parade in New York - boring!  I know,
there are a few races that actually involve passing on the track, but follow
the leader is only enjoyable for so long.
I think the cars are cool and very technologically advanced and I admire the
driver's bravery and (for some) skill.  But it doesn't mean I'm going to
watch the entire race when I can see every pass on RPM2Night.

If CART looks like a parade to you then you aren't watching closely
enough.  Seriously.  There is almost as much passing and lead changing
in a typical CART race as there is in NASCAR, and at a considerably
greater risk as well.  If that's not exciting then you just aren't
paying attention.

It is no more of a parade than F1. In F1 once someone gets in the lead and a
little ahead the race is over. You just sit back and watch ie. Ferarri. Dont
get me wrong, I used to be more of a CART fan than F1. Now I like F1 the
best. I do not know why but I have lost some interest in CART since Montoya
left.

Montoya is the best thing to happen to F1 in awhile.
