Does anyone need a LogiFF ball bearing kit?

by Alison Hin » Sun, 11 May 2003 00:42:03

At my request, Jens Schumacher is planning to make another run of ball
bearing kits for the Logitech Wingman Formula Force.  He doesn't have a
price yet but anticipates possibly a small price drop.  The last price
was $69 plus shipping, plus the cost of transferring the money to
Malaysia via Western Union.

The last time I ordered some kits, the money transfer cost was $15 for
one kit or $20 for two kits.  If anyone else is interested, we could
pool our orders and save significantly on the wire transfer cost.

If you haven't tried a ball bearing equipped "Old Red", you've never
experienced what FF can do in a good racing sim like GPL, Papy's NASCAR
Racing 2003, or the recent EA/ISI sims (F1 2002, F1 Challenge, and the
upcoming NASCAR Thunder 2004).

Force feedback with a BB LogiFF is awesome.  When it's properly set up,
you can feel tiny nuances of the track surface and the tire behavior
that you've never felt before.  You can feel the tail step out, and you
can feel the front tires wash out if you push too *** corner entry.

It makes a difference in your lap times as well as your enjoyment of the
driving experience.  A few days ago I finished a ball bearing conversion
for a friend, and using his newly converted wheel, I took 7 tenths of a
second off my personal best at Monaco in a Brabham F1 car!  The gain was
purely because I could feel the front tires' grip level better in two
critical corners, *** and Portier.

I've tried many other FF wheels, including Logitech MOMO Racing, Act
Labs Force RS, Microsoft, as well as high end passive wheels by Thomas
and ECCI, and nothing (except possibly a well-broken-in Force RS)
matches a ball bearing-equipped LogiFF.

LogiFF's are still available, too.  I recently found three of them on
eBay, and bought one (I should have bought all three!)  JustDeals.com
also lists refurbished LogiFF's for a very reasonable price.

Ok, sorry if I got carried away!  Anyway, if anyone would like to order
a ball bearing kit from Jens, let me know, and perhaps we can pool our
orders and save some money.

I'd be more interested in replacement pots. Where are you getting spare pots
from?

I have an old Logi red, and was just thinking the other day how cool it
would be to get it converted. It has been 'sloppy' for some years now.

I could easily afford the parts, but never ever be able to do the
conversion myself. I would probably end up buying the goods, and then
have them sit around until the end of time.

I thought the old red logi (I have one in the closet but don't want to dig
it out) had a serial cable that came with a serial->usb adapter?  If so,
couldn't you just buy one like this:

The Old jensschumi LogiCorner web page has some descriptions and pics of the
kit here,

http://jensschumi.tripod.com/LogiCorner.htm

Just click on the Ball Bearing link in the left hand menu.

I would suggest saving these pages & images for future reference.

The new Jens Schumacher Home Page here,

The New LogiCorner here,

http://jensschumi.bravepages.com/LogiCorner.htm

which I can't seem to access here from Florida. (real slow, on dialup) right
now.

Hope this is some help.

My MOMO Racing feels almost exactly the same as my beloved old red LWFF,
except that the force strength is almost twice as strong.  I have to turn
the overall effects strength down to 50% on my MOMO racing to re-capture the
blissful FF of my LWFF.

Hi,
I moved the page from tripod to bravepages w/o change.
Funny: tripod announced they discontinue their free hosting, but my residuals
over there still work.

No idea about access in Florida, should be working.

I don't plan to shut down the manual, so no need to hurry d/ling the page.

Achim,
there was a post here few months ago about suitable pots from one big supplier.
Unluckily I lost the name and the Data-sheet :-(
There might be milling needed to manufacture the D-joint, but on your converted
rig you only need to take out the set-screw and use hot-glue to fit the pot.

BTW: I would be highly interested on the source too.
