Hello Everyone. I have been playing alot of DTR online. I am a fair racer.
Give me a front row start and the race is usually mine, start me in the last
spot and I should get into the top five. I'm not the fastest, but I have
worked on being smooth and consistent. (Something I thought was real
important on the dirt) But I have hit a wall in my preparation for online
racing. The AI settings of DTR are all wrong, at least in regards to online
practice. We need a BRAIN-DEAD setting for the AI. I'm not sure how this
would work, but perhaps someone can re-program the AI to drive like I'm
seeing alot of first time DTR drivers. Examples. Making a right hand turn
half way down the backstretch. Never touching the brake. Using the car on
the outside to ricochet off into another car. All of these wonderful things,
that we can experience online, are missing from the stand alone game.
Perhaps we can get some relief.

(*Note: In about 50% of the online DTR races I've done, everything was
great. but that other 50%, wow.... BRAIN FADE was really strong.)

Thanks,
Brit

That was tried with CART:Precision Racing, and people got really
pissed off. Of course, in CPR it wasn't an option.

I say practice online. Seems easy to find a race at practically
anytime, and its more fun anyway. :-)

LOL. I hear what you're saying! Lots of pretty rough driving on DTR right
now as players try to figure it out. Its not all the fault of the players
though: I've seen cars travel the whole length of the straight *backwards*
at racing speed. At least thats how they appeared on my front end. I'm
assuming that there are some glitches yet to be worked out with the
prediction code.
One problem could be that most of the races I've seen in the last 2 days
were using *no* damage and the Late Modified cars. Inverted starts, powerful
cars, novice drivers and no downside for reckless driving seems to be a
recipe for pinball. Couple of races that I tryed using full damage and Pro
Stock or Stock cars seemed to work out better as races. Hope the full game
makes inverted starts an option. Oh yeah, the hosts abilty to boot people
needs to be easier :)

Pray tell me the correct technique then, because I daren't venture online
the way I drive DTR now.

I'm all over the place... I cannot positively position the car. I sorta have
to go where it leads me and I have to wait for it to get away from me to
find out what it's gonna do... HELP!!

That's just in plain stock BTW... I can't even imagine taking a Pro Stock or
a Late Model out.

Online is a blast. You have to try it! It's probably the fastest way
to learn to race.

The late models require near-constant small corrections, and it's easy
to overdo it. If you're having a problem with weaving back and forth
trying to keep from spinning of the corners, you could be over
compensating with the steering, or going into the corners too hot.

You'll see plenty of guys all over the track in late models racing
online, so you don't have much to worry about.
I have a Logitech FF wheel, and setting the centering spring very
stiff helped me a lot with over-compensating the steering.

If you want great practice offline, just force yourself to drive the
Zeus at Knocks Hill. After 20 laps in that, you'll be able to drive
the Lightning around with the pedal to the floor. :-)

I'm no pro myself, but I'm LOVING this game. I got a bunch of mid pack
finishes last night and my first win, but had fun the whole time.
