Riverside driving style

We are about to have an online race in our series at Riverside
 http://www.racesimcentral.net/)
I was wondering if guys in leagues stick to the road or drive like the AI
does. While I have raced with the AI I have also been driving the course
somewhat like them (cutting through the dirt ect.). I'm wondering the proper
etiquette for driving on this track in a league. I myself could care less, I
dont mind driving it either way but I'm wondering how leagues handle this as
far as penalties go? How should I inform the drivers on what style they
should use. Or should I just stick to F-1 rules "if you cut across the dirt
and gain a position you get a penalty"?
Thanks

Oh my!

Ok I know I should not open this can of worm, but go to http://www.deja.com/
and make a search for "rec.autos.simulators riverside" (all messages, not
just the new ones).

Personally I would say that you should try both and get the opinions out of
your drivers.  Some prefer one while other prefer the other.  I cut the
course (not as big as before, and Im faster using more grip on the asphalt
now possible when braking) like the AI.  Many people will say the opposite,
that you should stick to the asphalt and only a excursion in the sand is
possible when you are in a danger position for the other driver, or when you
commit a fault on the track.
