couple general n3 questions

by eg.. » Tue, 06 Feb 2001 07:28:06

I've played n3 decent bit for quite a while, but I've just started
racing on-line, and I have a few questions...

Are there any in-game settings to improve connection quality?  I've been
wondering if the # of cars drawn ahead and behind just affects video
performance or if it impacts online racing as well.

Are there any other on-line things like alt-y for online use?
Multiplayer controls don't seem well documented.

Is there a trick to not spin your wheels on race starts?  I currently
have a Sidewinder Pro (non-ff) joystick and cannot get a clean start w/o
wheel spin.

Any other advice for online racing?

Thanks,
Kevin

Make sure you get 30fps all the time. If it gets lower, you may experience
disconnects as a result of your pc not keeping up. So in this respect, your
graphics settings can make a difference.

Most important is alt-e and alt-y. Press alt-e once to disable
extrapolation. Next, start pressing alt-y until you see your connection
quality and pings improve. Once it's sufficient, press alt-e again to enable
extrapolation and more or less 'lock' your quality and pings. This can make
a noticable difference.

Alt-e and alt-y, and of course ctrl-f1 thru ctrl-f10. These controls are for
autochat. You can edit the autochat.txt file in your Nascar3 directory to
change the phrases.

The fastest possible start in N3 is just yanking it all the way down,
spinning the wheels madly and keeping the car in control. I know, it's not
realistic, but it's a fact for Nascar 3.

Join a well-managed league, it's the closest you can get to real racing and
your racing skills will improve a LOT!

Either I am mistaken, or I am brain dead, but as far as I remember, it's
ALT-F instead of CTRL-F.
