Newbie(ish) N2003 questions - gamma/"fast" setups/carsets

by Gary Taylo » Wed, 05 Mar 2003 23:17:53

I just moved to N2003 after a brief stint with N2002 and have a few nagging
questions I hope can be answered here:

1. Is it just me or do the colors in N2003 appear to be a little washed out
compared to N2002? And along those same lines, what does unchecking the
gamma settings box supposed to do? It's always re-checked when I go back
into Options.

2. Are the "fast" setups in N2003 just a little tougher than in N2002 or has
the Sim itself been altered to make things a little tougher? I understand
the result of asymmetrical setups, but it seems a lot harder to control the
car in N2003 with the fast setup than in N2002.

3. Is it possible to download entire carsets that are in hi-rez, or do you
usually have to download individuals cars or convert them yourself? And what
kind of FPS impact do the hi-rez cars have?
(I'm running an Athlon XP1800 with 512mb RAM and a 128MB ti4200).

Thanks in advance.

The <fast> setups in NR03 are much better than any setups that shipped with
previous games. Which means that they are somewhat more difficult to drive.
I rate myself as being only a little above average and they are just a

entire fuel run. IMO, they are a decent point to start from.

I know I downloaded an entire NR03 carset from The PitWagon a little while
ago, but can't seem to find it on their new site now. Hi-res cars should
only significantly impact fps if you run out of video ram (causing textures
to be swapped). I don't have a 128MB vid card, but I was under the
impression that one could handle a full field of hi-res cars. Not sure
though...
