GPL: Missing the paper when hosting

by Jason Mond » Sun, 08 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Hi Everyone,

It seems that ever since I tried hosting a dedicated server the paper no
longer appears when hosting a normal race.  I see it when I'm a client.

Here is my core.ini ... http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Any suggestions?

Jason.

I think that's intentional so that dedicated servers should not stall
due to no one pressing a key to bypass the paper.

When hosting.. select the option for "automatic paper display" (or
something like that).  Then the paper will be displayed after the race
is complete.  Without selecting this option, the paper will not be
displayed

Hi Arne,

I agree that a dedicated server should not see it, but I'm not seeing it
now that I'm just hosting normal races.  It seems that hosting dedicated
races one day started this problem.

Thanks for your replies Arne and Michael.

I did some testing hosting a Multiplayer race with just me driving.  I
saw the paper everytime!  Very strange.  The only thing I can think of
is the message "The server will leave the race in 1 minute" did not show
up.  It might be the case that if the server forces the chat session to
exit I will not get a paper.

client.

When GPL is launched by another program (VROC or GSB), it won't show
the newspaper, regardless of whether or not you've launched it as a
"dedicated" server.  It is not uncommon to launch a server before
leaving work and then control it remotely from home (using a boss
password), or to remotely launch a server using GSB.  Since there's no
one sitting at the server to press a key to make the newspaper go away,
we don't display it.
