That's because GP3 is GP2 with D3D poorly pasted on and some mediocre
weather effects.

Wow, I see the miracle pit crew from GP2 has returned for the sequel! Today
while on my second lap at Melbourne, I experienced engine problems around
the last few corners. So, I dove into the pits and voila, engine problem
fixed in 15 seconds flat!! Why can't they just let you drive into the pits
to retire a car like in real F1? I thought this aspect was cheesy in GP2 and
4 years later, it still behaves the same.

Does anyone else miss the little things some of the newer racing games have
given us? False starts, formation laps, AI car sounds, bi-linear filteriing
on ALL objects, etc... I enjoy this game but I must admit that beyond
weather and prettier graphics, little has changed from GP2.

They're pretty awesome, aren't they?  I had a crash at Imola in which
I ripped both the left front and left rear tire off the car, and after
managing to make it back to the pits, they were both completely
repaired in 12 seconds flat.  Amazing!!!!

I say it's a gameplay choice made by Crammond. Personally, I'd prefer to
be able to pit with just the time penalty of crawling to the pits and
rejoin the race. Why can't you just artificially retire yourself from the
race?

Amazing thing is that car could make it back to the pits...and then
that...very cool. what a sim!  what a sim!  Really sounds as though I should
go and buy a copy when it comes out in the US <G>

 I don't need the computer to tell me that my day is finished.  Why not just
quit the race?

Seems they are cheaters at heart.. Won't stop unless the sim
absolutely MAKES them stop    :-)

I agree that it is a bit of a let down, but no showstopper as you can
simulate it yourself if you want(like 107% rule also)

And this is why GP3 now has the crown as the best current F1 sim?????

Geoff has been living under a HUGE rock....  This was one of the big
beefs about GP2....  But then this is more in line with GC's design
style.... try to do 50% game to 50% simulation and then fudge heavily
towards the game side....  To me, these kind of "fudges" lowers my
ability "pretend" it's a really simulation.  Ruins the willing
suspension of disbelief.... :(  There are quite alot of movies like
that, Days of Thunder come to mind....

Hey, and while you're at it, why not do your own stop/go penalties
whenever you get black flagged.  We don't need a computer to tell us
when to come in the pits do this also do we?  Yeah, I wonder what other
things he missed out on that we could do ourselves just to keep things
more realistic?

BTW, how do you decide when the damage you've incurred is serious enough
to force you to retire and when it would have been concievable to
continue?
