Hey Jim, I was watching the Nascar Busch Grand National Race at Watkins
Glen, and I was wondering if Sierra perhaps meant for the announcers to
slip something in about Nascar2. The announcers were talking about the
Dale Earnhardt-owned #3 AC-DELCO car driven by Steve Parks, and they
said the way he learned Watkins Glen was through a game called Nascar
Two. And they went on and on about him and the game. Was this planned?
Ive seen companies pay before to hear announcers use their name on TV,
and did you guys?

I don't work for Papyrus anymore, and even when I did, I didn't know
everything we spent money on, but my strongest guess is that Sierra
didn't pay for that mention. But, who knows?

I'm sure Jim will chime in and comment as always, but please remember he is
no longer an employee of Papyrus.

Nope, we didn't pay for it.  I had heard before that Steve Park played
the game and really liked it.

That's how Steve learned to drive Dover.  I doubt that it was ment to
be  a plug, just telling a story.

BTW, Jacques Villenueve took the pole at Japan without ever driving the
track because he had a F1 game.

Yeah, he played GP2, although he was ***in the game; only qualified
last or something. It was at Spa in Belgium though I think.

Actually, that was Spa, and while I and everyone else has assumed he was
referring to GP2, I don't believe he's ever (at least publically) mentioned
the sim specifically by name.

I think it was the old Accolade Grand Prix Circuit! };^)

Speaking of Jacques Villeneuve, he's from Quebec, and the Quebec's
Sports channel ,RDS, showed us how Villeneuve was playing the F1 game.
First of all it's Gp2, not a sophisticated F1 simulator.  Second, from
what I remember, he was playing it on a chair that was a sort of
HyperStimulator type of***pit, but not from them.  They showed only
about 10 seconds of JV, and after they went to a Gp2 fanatic (yes they
exist) in Quebec.  He was playing with a T2 and it was very poor.  The
guy had Gp2 in half graphics (no sky, nothing in the mirrors, no
asphalt/grass), and it showed us Gp2 like if it was the game of the
century. sheesh.  Btw, Jacques Villeneuve knowed the Suzuka track,
because if you knowed him better before comming to Formula Atlantic and
IndyCar, he was driving in a Japan car series, and he drove in Suzuka.
It was tracks like Spa and Hockenheim that he never went and the Gp2
helped him. Not Suzuka.  Also, Patrick Carpentier, the CART driver, took
IndyCar Racing 2 to help him practice on new tracks.  It was funny
because at the Surfer's Paradise race, he had some probles with one of
the chicane (the big one at the backstretch).  My friend spoken to him
and he said to P.C. that this track in Icr2 was the worst done for
practice.  And P.C. responded that even if he thinks that Icr2 is
somethimes harder than the real CART, the chicanes in Icr2 are poorly
done.  He said that in the game he touched the wall many times in the
backstrech chicane, and that's why he was affraid of it in the real
race.  Thanks a lot,

With great respect,

We were just as surprised to hear the mention of N2 by the announcers
as you were!
