Nascar Revolution is THE NEW KING!

NASCAR REVOLUTION is the new king of Nascar.  Sure, I'm gonna get flamed by
all the Nascar 1-2-3 worshippers, but this game is THE Nascar simulation!
To judge this game by the demo is to judge Nascar 3 by it's demo!

IT IS NOTHING LIKE the port to N64 and the Playstation.

NR is EXTREMELY deep!  Has all the options Nascar 1-2 have and then some...
even pit crew errors!  Excellent AI!!  They race three and four wide at
Dega!  They draft, they bump and they cut you off...  Mechanical failure...
Physics model is dead-on with Grand Prix Legends!!!!!!!!

Ex.  I was getting blown away at Dega and couldn't keep up with the 42nd car
(yes 43 cars on the track)!    Maid a few adjustments and I was finally
keeping up with the "lap cars."  Low and behold a wreck happens right in
front of me.  Looked like Mike Skinner cut in front of Kenny Irwin knocking
him into a few cars exiting the pit...  I check the replay and I see Irwin
and Skinner had been bump'n and grind'n through a few turns.  I guess the AI
holds a grudge!

Graphics and sound are beyond description!  1024x768 V2 SLI SB Live, PII
400!!  The game runs all 43 cars at over 30 fps!  Reflections and dynamic
lighting... The cars show damage!  The damage affects the aerodynamics which
affect your speed which forces you to make a pit stop to be entertained by a
motion captured pit crew!!  AWESOME!

There are a few flaws.  When you start a race, you do not get a warm up
lap... you start from a 3rd person view going into to turn four!  For the
life of me I can not figure out how to change gears!  Yellows flags need
work.  No way to keep Spotters voice but disable the announcers.

STEEP LEARNING CURVE!!!!  The games engine is VERY similar to Grand Prix
Legends!!

(and now the flames from the N1 and N2 fans who don't want this game to be
good)

I was able to get a hand on the full title today so let me add my opinion on
it. Of course it's your choice to what review is the most accurate to the
Hard-Core simracing fans. Him or me..  Heh..

It's a good arcade game.  I will say that they made some good new options
from their old line and game engine but as I said, I will not mention
"simulation" in this review as it's a arcade game, made as an arcade game
and targeted as an arcade game.

Electronic Arts still use the same game engine as I often said so basically
it's a "refreshed" version of Nascar Racing 99.  The simulation mode is
always limited by the poor game engine.

Im sorry but this is totally wrong.  The game engine and physic model in NR
is good for an arcade mode, but it clearly shows all the canned problems.
It acts similar to TOCA but on oval-shaped track with banking.

Oh yeah btw the track accuracy is pretty bad, I saw Michigan and it's
anything BUT the real track.  Bristol is "arcadish".  Indy is quite good,
but I feel I was more there with the Papyrus Indianapolis track.

The AI is basically the same as with the previous titles.  The "THUNDER AI"
marketing was of course crap, and they were lacking any intelligence.  They
tried too much to "recreate" each drivers and finally it acts like each AI
is doing it's own race without caring about any other cars.

I remember this problem in X-Car, mostly related to the canned AI who
changes modes from normal racing to aggressive when there is a car XYZ
distance near.  Oh and even in simulation mode you have the "when AI behind
you they go faster and when AI is in front they go slower" typical arcade
AI.

The physical model (I haven't tried the arcade mode, just simulation) makes
for bump and grinds  racing into the turns, who is not accurate to the real
sport.

Excluding the good looking pit crew (who is the only features that is over
every other racing title on the market), what you said was found in Nascar
Racing 1, who went on the shelves more than 4and a half years ago.  Four and
a half.

I really hated the start.  For me it was like the Daytona USA arcade game
where you enter right into the action.  Of course it's typical of an arcade
game.

And the Announcers are typical "EA Sports", but that's not to say it's good.
A real simulation would never have announcers.  The big problem is you don't
have much depth in the title. You do short races, or create a season of
short races, but it's too easy to go up front with easy setup changes (there
is some problems with the physics in this case), you can easily go up front
after 10-15laps.  Kinda like racing the Nascar2 AI at 98%.

Well I did some Stock-car racing, and Im sorry but the game engine is the
same as Andretti Racing on the PSX back in 1995.  Several canned features
(hey btw it has canned spins like Gp2), but it's a good title for the
arcade-style gamers.

I in fact would recommand it to the arcade-style people. It's the best
arcade-style racing software on the market.  But nothing of a simulation.

well, i am much dissapointed, running on a 400mmx PII, and Monster 3d II,
the sense of speed is like about 2 mile an hours. The Dash only view is a
little better, but not much, I was hoping for so much more.
The demo even seem to run better,
I have tried direct3d and Glide about the same.

Hey, you are grasping the reason for newsgroups. To discuss, argue and
disagree on thousands of subjects. Here we have the subject of racing
sims/games. If you think, Corey was attacked to hard, go to the flight-sim
ng and post: Novalogic develops sims! and check out the responses... ;^)

Hmm, so he didn't figure out how to change gears? Hmmm...

Chris I feel the Usenet is one of the most strange but yet itself
intellectual form of community today.

I don't have the same fun browsing on the net or chatting on IRC as I find
here.  So yes, 90% of my online time is here on the newsgroup.  And I stay
here also to reply to each of your post in contradiction with my m***and

Doesn't it seem odd that Corey was able to make a grave mistake in the very
first part of his message. Nascar Revolution is NOT a simulation. It's much
more of an arcade racer!

I don't agree with anybody who says you should be flamed for saying what you
have said, as it's just your opinion, all I'm doing is pointing out that
it's NOT a simulation, even if they add a couple of crumming garage
settings, which might I add, have very little effect on the racing itself in
this game.
