New Ferrari Wheel In October

Flame warThrustmaster announces new Ferrari F1 wheel

David G Fisher linked Thrustmaster's announcement of a new Ferrari replica wheel due in October. Steve Smith and others criticised the look of the bundled pedals, which led to an abusive exchange between Gerry Aitken and Fisher. Later posts noted Thrustmaster might not import it to the US, and GTX_SlotCar shared a fix for stiff pedal springs on the older Ferrari wheel.

There's nothing wrong with the pedals. They're as good as any that are included with the popular FF wheels. The gas spring is a little stiff on the current TM Ferrari, but that can be fixed and any sim racer is hopefully bracing the pedals and elevating the front to get a comfortable angle. I can't remember the name of the company that's making this wheel. Maybe I could spend a few hours to look it up, but they also market it under their own name as well as AVB, Guest (in the UK), TM and several others. Most of this new wheel looks like the previous TM Ferrari. Same case but without the shifter (TM was the only one with this this option anyway). Pedals look almost the same. I assume (and hope) the electronics are the same because it is a very nice, precision wheel. So, if they've taken the current TM Ferrari and added ball bearings and steel shafts, that's even better. Then it looks like they've changed the shifting paddles from plastic to metal. This was the weak point on the current wheel. Personally, I prefer a GT style wheel, but F1 style one they put on does look good and this new setup from TM could be really something. Unless they've done something to really screw this up, I can see this being the wheel of choice for most sim racers, except Larry, who loves his MSFF ;) -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:KnGd9.448908$[email hidden]... > What's wrong with the pedals? > > > "David Ciemny" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:GzFd9.2656$[email hidden]... > > Would be nice if they included some quality pedals. > > > > DC > > > > > > David G Fisher <[email hidden]> wrote in message > > news:hmkd9.287910$[email hidden]... > > > Somebody was asking about this recently. David, Does this look like a pair of ECCI pedals to you? Or TSWs? Or BRDs? Or even ACT Labs? To me they look like a typical pair of TM pedals: too close together, too short a crank arm, too small a base, probably too soft a spring, and probably made out of thin, highly frangible plastic. The MSFFW sure can be improved upon. The only problem is no one has done it yet. I agree the Momo wheel is a better part (at leaset when it's new), but MS still owns the crown when it comes to the pedals. They'll probably screw that up in the next round :) -Larry "GTX_SlotCar" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:al7nn3$1o580f$[email hidden]... > I can see this being the wheel of choice for most sim racers, exceptLarry, > who loves his MSFF ;) > > > -- > Slot >

Looks really cool to me. I can't picture the layout being "stupid".. I doubt MS or RB would place all their buttons and stuff completely out of reach. The aluminum shifters look awesome. The pedals look a bit better than the momo too, and definatley better than the old Thrustmaster. They > look 'Tractorish" like the Momo pedals. I'm only going from memory of earlier pics (the TM site is barred here at work) but I thought they looked very similar to the pedals I use with my MOMO (they're from a TM F1 (NASCAR Pro)) and they've served me well for years. Brake even has a rubber stop so you've got to give it that extra poke to get full travel. They are *so* far superior to the MOMO pedals it's not funny. I struggled for weeks when I first got the MOMO but couldn't get any lapping consistency whatsoever. Don't even think about trying to heel and toe - something that can be achieved with ease with the TMs - which are not tractor-like for what it's worth. Unless TM have cocked up somewhere I foresee that the pedals will be up there with the best of the non-exotic, "standard" consumer level wheel/pedal sets. Cheers, Mark Reading, UK
That's something to do with Ferrari badged bits not selling very well in th U.S. TM usually re-badge the products NASCAR but that would be a bit difficult as the wheel is a Ferrari replica and probably under copyright. Sorry about the font. The email setup is mostly for my wife. I'll see if I can change it without her noticing. Wish me luck and keep the couch warm. ;-) Speaking of PS2, my son has one with GT3. Is it worth investing some time to get to know? Jim Steve Smith wrote:

Absolutely. I just finished doing a story on racing games for the Xbox and PS2 and GT3 is at the head of my Top Ten list. In fact, I'd say it's better than 99% of PC racing games (with a FF wheel like Logi's GT Force), not 'cuz of its Lite physics model but certainly in terms of gameplay. If you send me yer email addy, I'll send you the relevant 'graphs. GT4, which unfortunately isn't due for many, many months, will support online racing. It's a great game.
