Live for Speed demo 0.1A adds reversed track and AI

Ped Xing relayed Scawen's announcement of Live for Speed demo version 0.1A, quickly followed by 0.1B; users enjoyed online racing on the reversed GP track. Much of the thread dealt with Radeon 8500 owners getting about 1fps, with disabling hardware TCL helping some but not others, and with split-axis and LWFF force-feedback issues. A side spat arose when a comment about buggy releases, meant for Flying Corps, was taken as an attack on LFS.

But there's a nice surprise or two in there... To keep your settings from 0.04 versions you will need to copy over the following files : cfg.txt data\misc\cfg.sta data\misc\fkeys.msg data\misc\drv.nam data\settings\*.set Please report any problems you come across, in theory it should be more reliable and has worked well under testing. Hopefully no more ghost players and wierd bugs... Have fun!

Some nice additions. I was driving around the track in reverse quite a bit already but it's nice to have some competitors now. Love the gloves. File size is: 32.2 MB Locker "Ped Xing" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Verrry awesome. Had some good online races already.. all of them backwards. It's good to race people on a new circuit.. the GP track backwards is awesome.. both esses are really hair raising, especially the downhill one. I almost lost it completely there on the final lap in the lead. The speed I lost was enough for 2nd place to catch up and pass me.. very awesome! There's a LOT more barriers and tyres on the road.. mostly to stop people from cutting corners. I'm really happy about that too! Looks really pretty, but still no fix for the Radeon problem (boo) Anyone else out there have about 1FPS with a Radeon 8500 and the latest drivers? Tsunami

That seems standard for the Radeon, and it's a shame that it hasnlt been fixed. If you turn off TCL, though, it works quite nicely. I get 30-40fps with quite a few AI, 1024x768, Smoothvision on 2Q and all in-game settings on high, except the mirror, which is off as it kills the frame rate. To turn off TCL you need a Radeon tweaker such as Rage3D Tweak or Radeonator. See http://www.rage3d.com/files/?page=files Ian -- Ian Riches GPL Rank +1.76 Monsters of GPL +284.19

Ah ok, didn't know they had the split axis thing working. I have tried it with the Radeon but not keening on setting the TLC on and off between different sims/games. The split axis was one of the first things they fixed - about 4 patches ago. All you need to do is visit their web site and look at the notes or read the forums. There is a large section of getting the Radeon to work well. One of the biggest fixes is to disable hardware T&L. "Schooner" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:nmKd9.58564$[email hidden]...

I just disable TCL and TCL backface culling. I use the Radeonator tweaker for that. Very easy. I normally race offline (never summoned up the courage for online yet...still only doing 1:36's with the FWD drive car and spinning the RWD ones all over the place...) With three opponents and no mirror, but all other graphics maxed I get: No smoothvision: 45-50fps 2x smoothvision: 30-40fps 4x smoothvision: 20-30fps 4x is not really playable, and is a bit stuttery. All the above are at 1024x768. I assume it is at 32-bit, as that is what my desktop is set at??? Anisotropic filtering is also set to max. I usually play at 2x smoothvision. First off, this is one awesome game. But (there's always a but), as a Radeon 8500 owner, it would be nice if they would address the issues with the Radeon. I know about the fix which is to disable hardware T&L, and it does certainly help, but a fix would be very nice. Fatbob "Ped Xing" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Thanks for the tip, but it made no difference, I still get about 1FPS with TCL turned off. I have tried both the Radeonater and Raid on tweakers, and it made no difference to the performance. Interestingly, the slow FPS is both during the game and in the menus. I don't know if this is the same problem as others have had, but I had this problem when I tried to play E-racer (Hey, I was bored, OK ^_^) also, and never found an answer to that one either. Tsunami

Yes. works "great" on my non gaming PC with a weak(ish) CPU and R8500, get about 1 FPS with my Gaming PC with twice the CPU power and a R8500, which means I'm schtuck with mouse and keyboard for driving, still, down to 1:35's in the GTI :-) Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--

Dunno. It worked for me but I uninstalled it after that. Didn't want to have to turn it off, reboot, turn on, rinse, wash, repeat after every sim I run. This isn't a slam on LFS or anything but didn't impress me a whole lot. Lot like a demo of GPL or something but it does have potential for sure. It was surprise because it came out of the blue (to me at least). I am more used to knowing these things are in development and eagerly await the demo (or full release). Which usually ends up in disappointment :-( Unfortunately nothing has ever had the same impact as when I first fired up the GPL demo. I just knew I was limited to one track & no ai until the full version was released as everything else at the time just couldn't touch it. That is what I want to happen again but fear it may never happen :-( Optimistically (many will say!) I wonder if RL just might... Cheers Tony
