GTR2 Rank launched, followed by spelling spat

Uwe Schuerkamp announced a GTR2 Rank lap time site. The thread mostly became a petty argument over the spelling of 'laffs'. Tony Rickard and Alan Bernardo praised the F1 1979 mod demo for rFactor.

But I'm curious, what is your native tongue or what language (except for language which spells words through sound associations) has the word "laffs" in its dictionary? Or is it the uncommon feeling of stricking a key twice on the keyboard, in rapid succession, that attracts you? Alanb
[email hidden] (Alan Bernardo) wrote: > "laffs" That was Uwe's laff, I believe, not the eloquent reviewer's. Anyway, I can't speak for Uwe, but in the UK there are two ways to pronounce laugh. "Larf" is the nancy-boy, southern way of doing it. "Laff" is the proper way of pronouncing it, as all sensible northerners know. So while neither spelling's in the dictionary, it's a very important distinction to make, and therefore worth spelling out clearly for fear of being mistaken for a southern lowlife type. Andrew once again has it spot-on ;-) Anyway, "just for laughs" might have been better for the international crowd here. cheers, uwe -- GPG Fingerprint: 2E 13 20 22 9A 3F 63 7F 67 6F E9 B1 A8 36 A4 61

How do you strick a keyboard? Stricking is not in the dictionary either. Perhaps you mean striking? See how easy being an anal spelling bee is?

There is a difference between a typo (my spell-checker missed it) and what the initial poster did-- using "laff" instead of "laugh". His was done on purpose, and mine was an accident. To give a four-word, generalized review of a demo preceded by some twelve year-old oral spelling, was too much for me. I would've over-looked the laziness of the "laff" if the short review had not followed. So though I should be more careful when looking for mistakes in language and spelling and I thank you for pointing out my error, my mistake was accidental while our expert reviewer's was not. Alanb
Now Alan, dig the hook out of 'yer' mouth. take a deep breath and let OE mark the post as read and move on... <VBG> Life is too short.... Alan Bernardo enlightened us with:

Thank you very much. Your kind words are a reflection of self. You give us a four-word, meaningless review, swear, and then have the presence of mind to call someone such kind names. Maybe once you get out of high school, you can become something big. Alanb

Okay. Whatever you say. I would think that I know how to spell a word that is quite elementary. You're only fooling yourself or wishing things were other than they are if you think differently. And the last book you read was-- _The Hoties of the Nascar Circuit: In Living Color_ :) Alanb

Life being actually too long, I can't let it crowd in on me by letting some kid toss me about. :) I will, however, be looking forward to GTR2. I use rFactor mainly for the open-wheelers, and GTR suits me fine for the other types of cars. Alanb

I think if we continue this most engaging conversation any longer, you might prove more about yourself than you'd really want to. Bye now! Alanb

The 1979 F1 mod demo for rFactor is looking rather good. I have been a bit disappointed with the development of rFactor, but it seems to be coming of age. I guess it does take some time to produce a top quality mod and we are starting to see them now. The sounds are fantastic. I always found the trainers to feel the best in rfactor and the winged open wheelers not so good. This mod feels just right. Very good. Cheers Tony

I agree. The '79 F1 Mod is rather nice, even though it is but a demo. I do like it better than any of the F1 Mods currently released. Alanb

You might be correct, but it was written by an idiot (or reported by one). :) Alanb

Any rumors or anything for GTLegends 2? I just bought me a 7800 graphics card, and I still get stumble-humbled down to 15 fps in some of the offline challenges. Since rFactor and GTL2 are so much better on my machine, but I dont like the superquick twitchy cars... Please let there be a GTL2 thanks for letting me vent, back to Sears point, in my 66 Vette...
