Hi! Anyone own an ATI 9700 and run GPLegends?? Apparently you cannot enable FullScreenAnti-Aliasing in any game which is not 32-bit colour, ie GPL! Can someone confirm/deny this? Please ?? See this thread: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=50da5f298cf5a3a851f80daa1741e7fb&threadid=33634190 here's the ATI post on it, originally posted by 3DCube: quote: This is not a problem/bug. It was a design decision not to support 16bit AA. If we get enough demand, we may consider supporting it. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthr...20&pagenumber=6 end Can this be true? If so, it's completely ridiculous, because many people still play 16-bit games, eg GPL, and I think the original Falcon 4, what about Need For Speed?, combat flight sim, etc. I fully understand that you don't actually need a 9700 to play GPL, but it must offer at least the same level of image quality as an 8500. Going back to no FSAA is not an option. I know whenever FSAA is discussed, somebody who doesn't know what he's talking about says, "Hey, dude, why don't you just crank up the res??" - It is not the same thing at all, as apart from reducing jaggies, FSAA kills "swimming" and "pixel popping" as well. I know they are not particularly obvious in GPL, but try a good flight sim like falcon4, and the vast improvement in image quality that FSAA gives is obvious. I could accept that the 9700 would not be able to give as big an improvement in "old" 16bit games as in "new" 32bit, but to actually go backwards is absurd! (I was going to buy a 9700 for f1-2002, and GTA3, looking forward to 1280X1024 @ 4X Quality FSAA, but this is a deal breaker for me. I play GPL just as much on my 8500 @ 1024 X 760 @ 4X FSAA.) I should think that the profile of people who can afford $400 for a video card is biased towards Simulators (ie Old Geezers!) rather than 1st person shooters (ie Spotty-Faced Punks!), although perhaps I am over-simplifying a more complex social demographic!! Anyway, 9700 owners? Please?? JM

Please ?? It's true, I just check that out last night. Even at 1600x1200, there is still enough jaggies to bother me. Anyone that thinks 1600x1200 is enough to get rid of jaggies to try GPL Mexico track. Some older games like CounterStrike allows you to force 32 bit color but GPL doesn't. There is a petition thread on Rage3d's forum to asked ATI to add FSAA support for 16bit color with the 9700. Btw, the 9700 Pro should have enough horsepower to run GPL at 1600x1200 with 4x FSAA and 16x AF.
With my Nvidia card running FSAA makes all the menus melt away. I think the 8500s had the same problem. so unless the 9700 does something drasticly different you probably couldn't use it. Now as far as 16 bit vs. 32 bit goes I wonder if there is a reason for it. IMO with NR2002 I get less jaggies with 32 bit over 16 bit. So I run in 32bit with no FSAA over 16bit with 2x FSAA. Now I'm running the Omega drivers so that my have something to do with it. MadDAWG
