I've tried several "right" places to get this information, but with no luck. Does anyone know if PC3500 (DDR433) memory is backward compatible with PC2700 (DDR333)? I asked Abit if PC3500 would work in my SD7-533 mb and all they said was if it's backward compatible (can run in 2700 mode), it will. Here's what I'm trying to do. I'm building another computer for work similar to the one I have at home. I've had the mb for months, just haven't gotten around to building it. Since I have to get more memory anyway, I thought I'd try PC3500 to try to get some extra OCing out of it. The mb only allows certain dividers and multipliers to set everything. My computer runs about the same speed if the FSB is set at 150mhz or 160mhz like this: the divider at 4 and memory multiplier at 5, so the DDR333 runs at 150/4 X 5 X 2= 375mhz OR the divider set at 4 and the multiplier set at 4 so the DDR333 runs at 160/4 X 4 X 2=320mhz. The first way it runs at 2560mhz and the 2nd way it runs at 2400mhz, but with a higher memory bandwidth. Some games run a little faster one way, some the other. It's a toss up. What I'd really like to do is run it at 160 FSB and the 5 multiplier to get the memory at 400mhz. That, coupled with the fact that the PC3500 is rated at CL2, should give me quite a boost. And heck, I've got to buy more memory anyway. Now, using a lower FSB and higher multiplier, I've had the DDR333 running at about 386mhz, but the stability was questionable as I recall. So, my questions are: will the PC3500 run in my mb? and if it does, could the memory bus on the mb actually limit the speed I can get out of the memory so running PC3500 won't actually give me any gain? -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com

Yes it will be fully backwards compatible and work the way you said, basically 3500 is just the speed it is rated to, there's no physical difference from PC2700. The only problem you could have is that some PC3200 is rated at cas3 and some P4 mobos wont do cas3, but the stuff you are looking at is obviously higher quality. Yes, it's GeIL PC3500 433MHz DDR Platinum Series, 4.5ns. CL2.5 at 433 and CL2 at 400. I expect to be running it at about 400. 256mb is $89 shipped. I can't believe how cheap it is for memory of this quality right now. Thanks > but the stuff you are > looking at is obviously higher quality. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com
