Brazilian site plagiarises freeware GeneRally
David Buttery reported a Brazilian site distributing a copy of the freeware game GeneRally renamed 'GenneRally' with its own copyright notice. Posters confirmed through the author's forum that it was a rip-off rather than a translation, and one noted the site installed adware. The thread ended in jokes about who to blame.

I just don't see the reason why somebody would do this. I mean it's
freeware, there's nothing you can get in return.

I don't speak brazilian (or portuguese or whatever it is) but is it not just
a brazillian mirror?
Oops looked at the thread and the guy has even renamed the exe to
gennerally.exe

legitmately?? Am I the only one that thinks this?
You know how the name "GeneRALLY" is a play on the word "generally"? Maybe
the word "generally" in whatever language that is, is actually spelled
"gennerally". So, to make it still a play on words in the other language,
the name of the game is changed.
The email addresses are different, but maybe the maker of Generally has
appointed the second language version to someone else that can speak the
language. So they can respond to the emails and such..
No?

That's not a regular domain. It's a link to another site. (i.e. if you put
"http://generally.cjb.net" in your browser, you are sent to
"http://koti.mbnet.fi/grally/")

The brazilian guy has put his own name on the readme file where it
says "Copyright..."

Nope - Hannu (author of GeneRally) has said as much on his forums, and in
any case (as Jussi says above) the Brazilian bloke has altered the
copyright message.
NB: cjb.net is a free redirection service - zillions of completely
unrelated sites use it.

Ouch! ;-) I meant it in a StarWars-ishy way, hehe, or did I? Hell, I
don't know, but I like the sound of 'You are the two' in Heff's
playground much better. :)
