Hi Guys,
I have recently got myself a new PC (Athlon 2000 Pro + GeForce4 MX440) so
for GPL now I'd using the D3D rasterizer. Game runs absolutely awesome but
there are a couple of things that are annoying me ... maybe one of you has
seen this and can help?
a) First problem is that the 'text' in the black header/footer of the screen
gets corrupted ... almost like it's loosing definition/resolution and over
time you can't read it at all. By header/footer I mean the areas that shows
the framerate in the 'race' and position, laptime, best laptime etc in
'replay'. Also, I've notice the 'text' on the screen that shows all your
laptimes/positions getting corrupted. Any idea how to 'fix' this?
b) Second problem is that when I exit GPL and come back to the my Windows
(98) desktop, all my Windows are moved as if my windows resolution was
turned down. This is not really a problem but it is annoying. Any idea how
to stop it doing this?
ps. I'm running Windows at 1280x 1024 resolution while GPL as 1027x768.
Thanks for any/all the helps and tips in advance.

GPL text corruption with GeForce4 MX in Direct3D
David Mocnay reported corrupted header text and other glitches running Grand Prix Legends in Direct3D on a GeForce4 MX440. Others linked the problem to anti-aliasing or high-resolution car skins and recommended the patched OpenGL rasterizer posted on the RaceSimCentral forum, along with a tip to double mirror resolution. Some users could not see the forum attachment in Internet Explorer, so Goy Larsen emailed it.
Automated summary.
Can't help you sorry. I have the same problem in GPL but i have a AMD Athlon
XP 1600+ and a GF2 GTS vid card with v29.80 drivers, i've changed the
drivers but it doesn't fix it. I'm running Windows98se at 1024 x 768 and GPL
at 1152 x 864.

So all in all with GPL its all about compromise...and don't count on Papyrus
to release an update on a four year old game :(

Hanven't seen that problem on mine. Since there was a fix to the OpenGL rasterizer posted at
racesimcentral a few months back, I use it and never looked back. In almost every case, if I can
use OpenGL for a game, I do since I'm using a Geforce card.

I ran the opengl fix the other day and it seemed to be faster. ANd it
seem to work, and the mirrors seemed to be ok. (just some recon laps so I
can't say for sure...) But give it a go....use the fixed opengl file and
you should be good to go.

the
mirrors is to take the mirror.mip and make it 256x256 using winmip or whatever you prefer. It
doubles the mirror resolution. As always, make a copy of your original mirror.mip first in case you
have trouble.

You have to use the patched OpenGL rasterizer posted at racesimcentral's

Thanks, I'll give it a go. Though, can you point me to the patch (ie. a
link) as I don't see anything in the forum. Not only that but I saw the
thead that talks about this but no link to a patch. Can I download it from
anywhere else?
Thanks.

Thanks again, but this link takes me to a thread discussing the 'patch'
in the Racesimcentral forum (thread is called "Last time OGL ?"). I don't
see the patch (or link to it) anywhere.
If this link does have the 'patch' somewhere then where do I find it and
how do I download it.
Sorry for not 'getting this' but I just cannot see anything I can
download.

Arghhh!!! I guess what you're seeing and I am seeing are not the same
thing. There's no link at all ... I even did a search for rastogl in that
thread just to see if I'm going blind but none of the 'finds' were a link
:-(
Could you possibly post the link to the rastogl.ZIP
ps. This is what I see when I look at the given link to the forum:

Last time OGL ?
Hi GPL-friends,
today I used the OpenGL-driver once again
and the menues and driving on the track was OK.
Then I leaved the track and CrashToDesktop
with an windows error message. I looked into
the details and once again I started the Disassembler
to look into the programcode of rastogl.dll
I found the right programcode and I changed
the conditional jump command in front of it.
Now all seems working right. But I want someone
else to test the modified dll.
Maybe if you change the tracks very often
or run other software after GPL your memory
runs out. This is because I patched the
"mipfree"-function.
My system is running with win98 and a nvidia
card with drivers 29.xx (Edited on 31.07: and
NVOPENGL.DLL from the 30.30 drivers.)
Please backup your original rastogl.dll file.
Greetings

I can send it to you if you'd like, it's less than 100kb, for some
strange reason it doesn't show up when I'm using IE, but it's there in
Opera....which a "little" odd to say the least :-)
It's not often I come across web sites that aren't IE compatible LOL,
guess it's an update to IE we don't have or something, or a security
setting perhaps, but as long as it works with Opera I don't care :-)
Btw, don't reply to me at mail addy shown in this post, that's a known

I did have a problem with pauses, so I went back to D3D but the pauses
were still there, and even after a reboot still had pauses in
practically every game I played that night. I'm assuming the pauses
were due to an unrelated systems issue. Other than that the OGL driver
worked flawlessly, and I noticed that there were transparent windows and
other features visible with the OGL driver that were opaque in D3D. As
soon as I get the pausing issue sorted out I am going back to OGL.

Prolly some security setting or something, I checked last night on my
home PC again, and it worked in IE there, both Comps run WinXP PRO with
all updates installed, I might have messed around with some settings on
my PC here at work as I need to use IE here every so often, at home I've
never used IE since I installed WinXP and Opera
I'm too lazy to compare settings though )
