Well during the race i got wrecked 2 times, and mr. Simmons yells at me for
telling people not to slam on the brakes after a yellow flag. And I get
criticized for not letting cars have their lap back even though they are
half a mile behind me. What the heck is going on today???
RASCAR New Hampshire race disputes over cautions
Frederickson complained about being wrecked and criticised during the RASCAR NR2002 race at New Hampshire. Drivers argued over braking after yellow flags, giving lapped cars their lap back and single versus double-file restarts, and Brian Oster accepted blame for one incident. Tempers eased as participants explained their views, though one exchange included a profane outburst.

I wouldnt mind going back to single file restarts myself. It just makes
it nasty for the top 2-5 when guys are ducking/darting for spots at the
restart. Today clearly demonstrates this as we had somewhere near 5
cautions on restart laps..

Tim surely was the man to beat today... kudos.
Disagree on the restart theory... I think lead lap cars need to show more
solidarity and, instead of trying to capitalize on lap cars mixing it with
the lead lap cars, try to keep the lap cars on the bottom until they're a)
shuffled back sufficiently not to interfere with, say, the top6 and b) the
field has settled enough for them to merge safely. Seeing the flag in Nascar
races is all about driving with your brain and showing some give and take
among the drivers. If it backfires in one race, there's always the
opportunity to keep that in mind in future. What comes around, goes around.
We understood eachother well (I think) this time. Larry didn't give me a
hard time at a track he happens to be uncomfortable at... I'm sure he now
expects the same of me.

I disagree with the single file thing. New Hampshire is simply a bad
track for restarts when you have slower cars to the inside. The
problem is that you have to blast down the front straight and then
slam on the brakes and everyone seemed to have different breaking
points today. I was probably being over aggressive on restarts
because when I was starting 3rd or 4th I kept running up on the cars
in front of me, but I was really being pressured from behind. I will
say this, lap down cars better make sure that they can hold a line
going through the turn when you have lead lap cars on your outside.
My apologies to John Simmons and whoever else I wrecked when I slammed
on the brakes when the caution came out. Tim was trying to be a nice
guy and give a lap back and by the time I realized what he was doing I
had to swerve to avoid him and then I tried NOT to gain a "cheap
position" and also give a lap back by slowing abuptly and ended up
causing a big mess. Anyway, not one of my better days. Congrats to
Tim... some day I'm gonna figure out how to beat this guy... I may
just have to punt him on the last lap or something. :)

lap back at any yellow. The only reason you should give them a lap is if
they are already behind or alongside you when the yellow comes out. Half the
cars are still racing and then someone is going 30 MPH slower than everyone
else, so that creates an accident. If you are halfway around the track from
the leader dont expect to get your lap back, simple as that.

one should be flamed for not giving a lap back. Having said that, we
are not racing for money or even for points so I believe we should
give a lap back if possible. I have been *given* several laps back
and I have reciprocated. Having raced with Tim several times now I
know that he always tries to give people their laps back and that is
probably why he called you out for not doing so when you were the
leader. But in that particular case you probably would have had to
almost stop to give the lap back so I don't think you did anything
wrong, Tim just probably expected you to try.

For the record, John was nowhere near half a lap back. He was right behind me and I was almost right behind you. When I so parked the car in turn 4 to give him ample room I thought for sure you'd see it on your F2 screen or in your mirror and back off.
So to be fair, it was me who made the 'mean' comment your referring to not John, sorry. You just caught me by surprise which is my excuse for the comment :)
But I did try to make it up by trying to give the next caution back to John by pretty much taking out the whole field so don't feel too bad for my lack of track awareness.

Here's a reason to have double file restarts ... well two I can think of...
When your able to get back on the lead lap under caution where you can then pit and have at least fresher tires than the leaders (if they don't pit) is just about the best feeling next to winning a race. I honestly do not understand why anyone would continue to race in any form if they were never able to get a lap back once they're down.
And, most of us are here to learn. And learning track and situational awareness is in my opinion one of the most important aspects.
Since we don't keep score, like a regular league, this is about the only place I know of that anyone can do that.
I'd hate to see that go away.

Tim, I'm afraid I have to take credit for the last one. You did the

done the same thing. If I would have been paying attention, I would
have lifted the same time you did and not stopped at the s/f line in
the middlfe of the track and blocked the entire track. I race with
the F2 screen on all the time and usually I always have situation
awareness at all times, but that caution caught me off guard. You
were pretty close to the s/f line when the caution came out, but after
I reviewed the replay, John could have safetly made up his lap if I

my fault for not paying attention. I am sorry (and embarrassed) to

Agreed. At bristol I got a couple of laps down and I easily could
have pitted and raced my way back on to the lead lap early in the
race. With single file I spent the entire race trying to get back on
the lead lap. Even though we had problems this week double file
definitely needs to stay. With double file you still have hope if you
go down a lap due to a bf or something.

First, you weren't up there with those guys to see what they did, and you
didn't know why they did it. All you did was start bitching about people
slamming on the brakes. Well, Tim decided he was gonna try to let me get a
lap back and Brian didn't know he was gonna do it, and swerved to miss him,
and I punted brian as a result because I saw what Tim was trying to do. Tim
admitted it was a bad call.
You shouldn't worry about not allowing me a lap back yourself because like
you said, you were too far ahead to really do anything about it anyway
without possibly loosing the lead (Ginger was right behind me anyway).
However, I do have a bone to pick with Joon again, and for the same reason
as last time. He was making a concerted effort to keep me from passing him
even though I had the faster car, and even though I was MULITPLE laps down
to his position. Once again, I think it was bad form because he was
evidently trying to keep me between him and the car bhind me.

I missed the start due to the power going out, and was a lap down from the
beginning.
On lap 56 Ginger was in the lead with you behind him, and me third when he
slowed down to let me get my lap back. You went by him and didn't let me get
my lap either. Not sure if you just didn't realize what was going on or
what.
I'd been letting guys by the first 56 laps so as not to interfere too much
in what was going on. On most any other track I'd just race hard in that
situation to stay up front as I've done at other tracks to get laps back.
That exchange kind of made me want to change my approach and only pick and
choose who I made life easy for based on what they've done for me in the
past. I'm guessing though you just didn't realize what Ginger was trying to
do for me. No big deal actually. I wasn't enjoying that track at all anyway.
What really bothered me was the attitude by what seemed like most everbody
had towards a lapped car. I was getting dive bombed it seemed in a way that
drivers on the lead lap weren't. Lucky for them I wasn't (a) trying to hold
my position 100% (b) in a bad mood or I could have made sure they lost a lot
of time.

In dicey situations, I was downshifting to 3rd in the turns in order to
maintain better control at the lower speeds. This helped to keep me from
drifting up into outside cars.

That's what happened when I got into Mitch early in the race. I came up on
the green 150 (Mack) so damned fast that all I could do was go right and
hope no one was there. My spotter hadn't been saying anything, but he was

Terrible luck David.

Dave, when you reconnected your car appeared plain green with no numbers on
it. I only knew it was you because you were the only one on the inside line
on the first restart. Not saying this had anything to do with it, but your
appearance in the race was quite different from your "signature" one and it
might have added to Fred's confusion.
Hehehe... sour grapes. ;-))

I think there were a lot of different approaches to the turns being used
last night. Which is cool, as long as people hold their lines.

could dive in deeper than I was, and I never figured out what I was doing
wrong/different.
So I just stayed the hell out of the way :)

During practice I followed Cole Trickle;-). He showed me that going with a
high entry into the turns, I could then turn in and accelerate out faster.
It took .3 off my lap times.

I saw that too, but couldn't quite do it without locking up-losing control.

When was this? I thought I gave you a lap back?
My goal at this track was to not do any stupid stuff and cause wrecks like I
did last week at Dover. I think I was somewhat succesful, seeing as how I
had only 1 incident where I was rear ended. Seems like I did force somebody
into the wall one time, but not intentionally. Just overdrove the turn and
couldn't hold it low. Could you tell me what lap so I can see what I did
wrong?

You cut me deep, fredrickson, you cut me deep....
I agree.
At first I thought, man who IS this idiot, somedody eject him before someone gets killed :)
But after awhile I noticed he was consistant so it became clear he was not doing anything intentional just new at it.
And yes, that was my biggest fear as well that coming up on him so fast I'd get hit. But he Was holding his line.
The coolest part of racing with him was when it was over, after getting so waxed by everyone, and we all were in chat and he typed...
"Man that was awesome! Thanks!!!"
LOL :)

I think Mack was trying to do the right thing during the race, but the
problem was he was SO far off the pace, stuff was happening too quick.
That's what happened when I got into Mitch early in the race. I came up on
the green 150 (Mack) so damned fast that all I could do was go right and
hope no one was there. My spotter hadn't been saying anything, but he was
apparantly just above and behind me. Loudon isn't a place where you can
slap on the brakes and swerve becuase you'll end up being a pinwheel taking
half the field out.
Rough place. I say dig it up :)

Yea, when I saw Ginger slowing down, i didnt know what he was doing and went
by him, then when i was nearing the line i saw dave coming and hit the
brakes(since no one else was behind me), but it was too late.
I'm afraid I made a terrible impression last night. Altough I was able to
hold a steady pace I made 4 stupid ass mistakes, and caused 1 yellow :-(
-first mistake was when I was in the lead, I decided in the middle of T3 to
give John a lap back when there was a yellow. I now realise I should've
waited till the front-stretch before lifting, because I overdrove the turn
and ended up in the wall.
-Being in the lead again at a restart I overdrove T1 and stupidly
downshifted to 3rd, causing a spin and a yellow . #24 hit me because of
this (sorry about that frederickson)
-When overtaken Mack on the back-stretch I returned to the groove way to
early, cutting him off. Luckily we both were able to continue our ride.
(sorry Mack)
-Last one was when I went below the yellow line in T2, car went loose and I
hit the inside wall.

I'm glad this comment came up. Altough I drove my first-ever (not counting
pick-up) race at RASCAR, and have learned a lot since, I realise every
week there's still a lot to learn for me.
cheers, jurjen (enjoying the great races we have)
