makes me go all squirrely):

I haven't read the interview yet Michael, but the few lines you quoted
seem to be me to be the death knell of ANY GPL sequels...

I heard the death knell for GPL2 five months after GPL was released.

PS: A while back someone posted a link to a site which had some pictures
of you on it, and you are F***ING ugly, son. Oh yeah, and as think as
shite.
Managed to glean some positive info from the much-maligned GameZone
interview...
-----------
Q: What do you think will initially blow game players away when they launch
this program?
Rich: "It's hard to say, because we're giving the whole product a real
overhaul. Graphics, sound, physics, and AI are all getting a lot of
attention. If I had to pick one thing, though, it would have to be our new
bumpy track surfaces. For the first time, we've modeled the actual bumps on
the racetrack, and it really changes the driving experience for the better.
Daytona, for example, is a pretty bumpy place, and going over its tunnel
side-by-side with another car can be a real adventure! People are going to
love it."
---------------
Sounds good here; maybe they'll improve the banking too, so tracks that
should truly will have multiple grooves. Plus, now that they've got the
product to such a high level but no more Nascar license sucking them down
the same old path, PC-based spin-offs (perhaps of the road racing variety!)
will not require the massive development efforts that make huge sales
numbers a necessity. Whatever form it comes in, my guess is the next
product from Papy after NR2003 will not disappoint this crowd.
Fingers crossed...

market and I don't think too many people in the "sim" arena use consoles
very much.

So Papyrus will turn developement to consoles? -So be it.
If they think it's worth abandoning their position their position as leading
PC racing sim developer, then that's their mistake.
Their current buyers aren't going to follow them to the console market and
start the word of mouth/hype needed to get themselves noticed there, IMO. I,
like most simmers (I think), don't own a console and see no reason to buy
one (heck, I don't even know anyone who owns a "2nd generation" console!).
My current PC already outperforms the PS2 by a mile (cfr. GTA3), so I'm not
going to buy a console to play the next sim, even if it's by Papyrus as it's
likely to be a step down from those currently available for the PC (not to
mention the fact I'd have to do some major interior work in order to be able
to race on my TV).
Papyrus is an unknown in the console market. At best they're known as "that
developer that made that stupidly difficult racing game with the old F1
cars".
I'm perfectly happy to continue racing GPL / N2k2 (or it's successor) until
someone steps up to take posession of the market segment abandoned by
Sierra/Papyrus.
Best of luck to you guys, so long.... SUCKERS!!!
Jan.

I think you are referring to a site Andre found of a David Fisher who's a
physics professor in Pennsylvania.

GPL2 was to be released had Vivendi not restructured their entertainment
division (resulting in Sierra cutting the axe heavily at Papyrus, in fact
Papyrus now is dead, there is almost NOBODY there working anymore).
It's really a ghost town at Papyrus. Yes Kaemmer has left, but several
depts. have almost if not nobody anymore. Well they already iirc had no
more artist dept (giving the job to those Russian people) but now it's
several different branches that are non-existent.
