I've been racing online since this sim came out. On the busiest of times I
only see at most 150 people in the various lobbies and maybe another 150
racing. Why is it there are no more people racing, or trying to race,
online? What am I missing? I also use MS Zone to fly online and notice the
same thing.
I believe the online community is miniscule, at least by what I see. I did
not use TEN or the other online networks and wonder if the numbers were low
there. I would think to be profitable you would need tens of thousands of
people wanting online action. Are there that many people out there? As my
posts suggests, what am I missing?
TIA
For me.... I don't spend much time doing open racing anymore. GPL has to
little interest after all these years and NR02 has incredible to many
knuckleheads to enjoy a pick up race.
I just focus on my league races for the most part because the open races are
a waste of time.

The point, by a nautical mile. It doesn't matter how many people are present
at any one time. It's about what they do, which, IMO, is one of the most
challenging and satisfying activities on a PC.
Besides, at an average of 3hrs of online simming a week you need 56000
simmers to keep 1000 simmers online 24/7. None of us does this full time,
you know.

And realize that many ONline guys are racing in leagues away from the
Sierra servers...so on any given night, there could be several hundred users
running league events on private servers.
The most successful racing for the papyrus sims was probably N3. (i.e.
the highest number of nightly users) The most sucessful racing online of
any sort is probably one of the microsoft titles like Monster Truck Madness
or the like. but that is many groups of only 3 to 6 racers(I thinks that's
the limit) which to me, ain't really sim racing.

Between the cheaters, wreckers, etc... open racing on Sierra just isn't the
same as it was on TEN.
On TEN, you could log in, group up with a bunch of regular racing buddies,
and go have some fun. It just isn't like that on Sierra for some reason.

get together almost nightly if you want for some really great racing. And it doesn't have the
politics involved with the leagues. It only takes a few nights to find some regulars who prefer
clean racing to a wreckfest, and they soon get to know you and will whisper you a password to a
private server to keep out the wreckers.

Like it or not, TEN weeded most of these people out.
