RASCAR Talladega race recap

RASCAR drivers recapped a Talladega race in NR2002 won by newcomer Don Wilshe, after EldredP crashed while racing for the lead with three laps left. Participants discussed early wrecks, latency, a blocking apology and complaints about the unrealistic bottoming-out behaviour in the damage model.

I blow'd up! Rats :( Didn't even make it 10 laps. The one track I have a damn good chance of winning at everytime I race there, and I lost the motor :( Oh, well. There's always next week. -Larry
I know how you feel. I was REALLY looking forward to this race. Had a nice practice. Good qualifying. Unfortunately my car didn't come through the lap 3 incident too well, and it couldn't keep pace for the rest of the race. :-( David G Fisher "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:SEIn9.78547$[email hidden]...

Congrats to...Don Wilshe?!? Effing rookie comes in here and WINS the damn thing... :-) Nice run, Don! Unfortunately, Yours Truly screwed the pooch while racing for the lead with 3 laps to go. LTB, Sorry about that blocking. I was all set to settle into some drafting and I just didn't think anyone would want to race like that to each turn so early so I got a little pissed. My apologies. :( I don't think I blocked you into any turns but if I did, I'm sorry. -- Tim White www.intracmotorsports.com

I still dont know what happened to me. Somewhere around the front streach I get hit from the left by the 18? car I think and wham, Im into the wall. And I was running pretty good too. Then I got ejected for latency problems. When I got back into the race, I couldn't save the replay. Anyway, I was rootin for Eldred and thought that you actually had a chance. Your line was as good as anyones. I saw Tim get taken out by a car that I was avoiding. I knew it was coming. I think it was Uwe. Not sure. Once Tim was out of the race, I knew that I had a shot. Lots of fun and I look forward to next week. grub "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Congrats to...Don Wilshe?!? Tim, Apology accepted. Everyone wants to lead laps. It's racing :) Especially when you're at the one track you run so well at. Grub, You may have answered your own question :) If you were having latency problems, well, that's the worst possible thing you can have in NR2002. We've all seen it before where two cars touch that aren't any where near each other. I've had a car zip back 20 cars, nail me, and then zip back up where they were. It's maddening when it happens. NR2002's collision detection is the pits, really. -Larry "grubbat" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > I still dont know what happened to me. I thought I had made it thru the wreck, when the Sound Express popped up in front of me. I wrecked something in the motor. After that, top speed was only 170 or so in a draft. I stuck around for a while, but it was useless, so I quit. Besides, I would've become a rolling chicane. -- Richard "ZZ" Busch Member: Screamers Racing League CORS RASCAR GPL Rank + 17.46 MoGPL Rank + 349.43 http://www.ZZBusch.com ---------------- Busch Motorsports: Remember racecar is racecar spelled backward ----------------- Busch Carpentry: A good carpenter can nail anything -----------------

I truly felt sorry for you. :-) You were soooo close to getting by the accident and then.........whammmm! I also noticed in the replay that my hood magically crumpled itself as my back end hit the wall (probably was the cause of my car being slow). ?????? It really, really stinks to have a slow car at that track and have no choice but to watch the others disappear off into the distance knowing they are having all the fun. :-( I say we run Dega or Daytona again soon. Pleeeeeease Eldred? :-) David G Fisher
I was cruising along pretty well, had been damn lucky a couple of times by missing getting caught up in accidents that happened directly in front of me, and even led some laps. Then, I had my first screen freeze. I managed to get it off the track without hurting anyone else, and after two re-boots, finally managed to rejoin the race, but I was four laps down. I was eventually caught by the leaders again, but in the the process of trying to keep from going another lap down, I tapped Steve (#18) and sent him into the infield grass (although I don't think he spun as a result). Soon after that, I had my 2nd screen freeze, and once again, I managed to get it off the track without hurting anyone but myself. I rejoined again but the car was too damaged to continue. If you are refering to the incident on lap 47, from my replay I don't see how I could be considered responsible for that. Car18 "grubbat" > I still dont know what happened to me. Somewhere around the front streachI > get hit from the left by the 18? car I think and wham, Im into the wall.
Some awsome close racing guys ! Grats to Don Wilsche. Too bad Eldred didnt win this 1, that would have been very cool <g> Ginger - I watched the replay regarding our incident and although from my replay there seems to be some warp involved I think I should have stayed a bit lower exiting the turn, apologies again. Cheers, jurjen

Well at least you didn't wreck yourself like I did (very embarrasing). At least I didn't take any one else out. I do have a problem with Papy's physics model when you bottom out. In real life when you bottom out the car just "bounces" off the track, maybe causing the car to get a little out of shape. At the very least when you lift off the accelerator and slow your speed, the down force/g force that caused you to bottom out should be lessened and you should stop scrapping the bottom of the car. In N2002 when you bottom out it "sucks" the car into he track and continues to slide along the frame rails until you crash or spin out. Also, you lose almost complete corntol of the car. It's bullshit. If you watch real races they bottom out all the time and they even say that most of the time it is nothing more than a distraction to the driver. Anyway, Sat. I toched the left sides to the apron and when I brought it back to the banking the car bottomed out, apparently my tires magically disappeared and I slide on the frame rails up into the outside wall which totally destroyed my car. I was thinking that you made a slide through the infield and then right back into the track. I was passing Jsimmons on the left when I saw what I thought was a flash of your front bumper. Then it was me and the wall. Warp probally played a role here too as my 'quality' connection was poor. I am going to start the 34mb download of the replay and hope to have it in about 2 days. Man, I wish I had dsl or cable or some other fast connection. grub "spark" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:2hWn9.16090$[email hidden]...

Dammit! I don't have it. That happened to me last week. I think it was last week... I couldn't stop in time to avoid an accident, and hit something with the front of my car. I magically ended up with REAR end damage instead. -Larry "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

I agree. The bottoming out isn't very realistic. And I know exactly where you are talking about. I think it's mid-way between turn one and two, and with the fast fixed setup if you hit just the wrong spot it bottoms out and the result is what you describe. Been there, done that :) -Larry "Brian Oster" <bgoster@swbell**nosmap**.com> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
