Hi guys, I've tried everything and no matter what I do I cannot seem to be able to switch the ABS off in F1 2002. I have tried every setting for the ABS under the options (ie. off, low and high) and I can't see any difference - ABS is always on and I can't lock the brakes up. Also, I have looked into every PLR file I can find (in the 'save' as well as 'saveRH02' folders) and I have the Antilock Brakes="0" setting there as well. So what's going on? ... I would really like to drive these things without any ABS assistance ... why can't I switch OFF? If anyone can offer a suggestion then I'd love to hear it. ps. I take it that you guys CAN lock the brakes up? -- Regards, David Mocnay
probably the calibration of your brake pedal is bad and it can't lock the brakes....because with the abs off setting the abs is OFF and yes I CAN lock (and I DO too much) the f....g brakes... -- The first ever pinball ezboard !! http://pub7.ezboard.com/bpinball "David Mocnay" <[email hidden]> a crit dans le message de news: Xqep9.50273$[email hidden]... > Hi guys, > I've tried everything and no matter what I do I cannot seem to be able to > switch the ABS off in F1 2002. I have no problems locking up in GPL with the same wheel so I would not think so. Though is there another calibration setting/menu in F1 2002 where I need to set the 'range' of my pedals? Also I just tested my calibration in Windows (in control panel -> joysticks) and everything seems perfect. Everything is centered and pushing the pedals all the way down utilises the whole 'test' window. Though, good to hear that YOU can lock-up 'cos that means I should be able to set it to do that here. Can you see if it's a 'real' lock-up where once locked-up you can turn the wheel to either extreme and the car will just plough straight. Does it do that? -- Regards, David Mocnay "Txl" <txl AT free.fr> wrote in message news:3da58245$0$32412$[email hidden]... > probably the calibration of your brake pedal is bad and it can't lock the > brakes....because with the abs off setting the abs is OFF and yes I CAN lock > (and I DO too much) the f....g brakes... > > > > -- > The first ever pinball ezboard !! > http://pub7.ezboard.com/bpinball > > > "David Mocnay" <[email hidden]> a crit dans le message de news: > Xqep9.50273$[email hidden]... > > Hi guys, > > I've tried everything and no matter what I do I cannot seem to be able to > > switch the ABS off in F1 2002. Turn off ALL aids (Opp. Lock, Stability, etc.) and you will lock the wheels. I have the same prob: with ABS off and some aids on they don't lock (just tried). If you want full braking power, you need to make sure that ABS is turned off and that you have brake pressure set to 100% in your setups. IIRC the default setups use 75-85% brake pressure which makes braking a chore. Jason
This could be it - ----------------------------------------------- > Turn off ALL aids (Opp. Lock, Stability, etc.) and you will lock the wheels. > I have the same prob: with ABS off and some aids on they don't lock (just > tried).----------------------------------------------- I will try it with ALL aids OFF. I wonder whether that means I need to switch OFF the traction-control as all I have set is traction-control on LOW and stability on HIGH. Everything else is OFF. Thoguh, if that is the case then it will be annoying if I cannot have traction control without ABS as that's the way I want to drive it and I don't enjoy it that much with the traction control set to OFF (seems to behave most realistically with the traction control on low IMHO). Interstigly enough my enjoyment has lessened lately because I have the ABS ON ... I would love to have this game the way I like it. Wonder why it won't let me :-( -- Regards, David Mocnay

--------------------------------------------- hmmm, I like this better if it will work. I'll take a look and see if I can turn it up to 100%. So am I reading tyhis right? You can set it via the setup whether the ABS is on/off or what effectiveness it has - correct? If I am reading it correclty then setting the 'brake pressure' to less then 100% will introduce some sort of ABS to the car. I'm not sure if I like that 'feature' as it means that some people can be driving with the ABS ON just by tunning their setups. So if someone claims that they did that or that laptime with the 'aids' OFF then they still could have had ABS :-( -- Regards, David Mocnay

So if someone > claims that they did that or that laptime with the 'aids' OFF then they > still could have had ABS :-( It's virtually impossible to lock up the wheels on an F1 car at high speed due to the enormous downforce. You'll notice that it's still possible to lock them at low speed. If not, you need to make sure that your pedals are depressing fully. Check the red bar in the joystick setup making sure it goes all the way up. Increasing the brake pressure makes the wheels lock up more readily but unfortunately the option isn't available in the car setup screens. The setting is in the car setup save files (they're just text files) but I highly recommend downloading the advanced setup menu addon available at http://f12k2.relaygames.com Cheers Damien P.S. The brakes on F1 cars are designed so that they don't exert so much pressure as to lock them at high speeds. The driver is able to jump on the brakes fully and then only back off them as he enters the corner.
Hi Guys, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > It's virtually impossible to lock up the wheels on an F1 car at high speed > due to the enormous downforce. I could come into a corner slam the brakes and the car would spill follow an arc around a corner instead of spearing straight of the track. On advice from some of the earlier posters I started fiddling with the 'aids' options to see what effect they had (even though I already had ABS = OFF). I managed to trace it down to the 'stability' option - if you have it set on anything else but OFF then the ABS is ON as well (even though the menu does not show it). It does not matter if you set the 'stability' on 'low' or 'high' as either option has got the ABS fully switched ON ... I spent the last 2 hours trying it (and other option). So I had to switch the stability to OFF and locking-up brakes is now easy ... seems like I'm locking up fairly often now and I'm happy with that as it now comes up to me to brae late into corners. Though, I'm not happy with the way the car/game feels with the 'stability' switched OFF as not touching the ripple-strips is a game of pot-luck. By that I mean that I have no feedback on when the car is going to step out when on the curbs ... sometimes it does not and sometimes it takes me for a 360. I was not enjoying the game much like this as I felt like there was no feedback at all and that I have no way of learning to catch these spins ... all I can do is not touch the ripple-strips or go slower. Neither option appeals to me.so I switched on the 'opposite lock assist' and even though I have knowing that the game is assisting my opposite-lock, it does feel better when driving as I feel like there is a slight moment of 'progression' when the car is about to lets go and I can actually respond. I spill spin often but I do feel like I knew that the spin was going to come and that makes a difference to me. I don't mind spinning if I 'felt' the spin coming and just did not correct/compensate well enough. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > Increasing the brake pressure makes the wheels lock up more readily but > unfortunately the option isn't available in the car setup screens. Though, either way, now I can brake the way you described above and that makes the experience so much for satisfying and enjoyable. Thanks again. -- Regards, David Mocnay > >
It certainly does - and too often!! Iain > Though, good to hear that YOU can lock-up 'cos that means I should be able > to set it to do that here. "Damien Smith" but I > highly recommend downloading the advanced setup menu addon available at > http://f12k2.relaygames.com > > Cheers > Damien Damien, I dloaded the advanced menu's and saw the extra page.(brake wear etc.) But the readme and the dload page also stated a track monitor was part of the package. How does it work?? I see nothing to enable it or what screen to go to for viewing. dave henrie
You'll see a little icon on the lower left of the screen which shows up as 'FIA Live Feed'. It allows you to watch what's happening out on the track in a small window - GPL style : )
